Ahh yes: "Mercury Theatre presents..." I don't remember it live, but as a broadcast journalism student in the 60's it was required study! Conned more people than today's digitized effects ever could!

I was thinking that's what it was. But, I didn't realize that it was that long ago.

I wonder what it actually was like during the original broadcast of that. I mean I'm pretty sure over the past 70 years the story of peoples reactions has been greatly exaggerated.

I do know as Orson Wells as about to declare a state of emergency, he was told not to impersonate FDR, so he tried to come off as one of his cabinet members.




Just imagining if it was 1989 and Dana Carvey was doing this...

My mother told me about hearing this broadcast. The disclaimer was only in the very beginning, and they hear it. So they thought it was really happening.
