regarding the HCH-I lower engine cover (item #6 on diagram below):

How close does this cover come to the exhaust? Are there any provisions for heat insulation on the part or is it just plastic?

I'm looking to fashion a lower engine cover for my non-hybrid 05 Civic (using coroplast), but have concerns where it would come near the exhaust:

I've seen examples that leave a space around the exhaust, but I'd like to avoid that if feasible.

I'd love to see your HCH-I undercarriage pics (with and without lower engine cover installed) to get a feel for how it compares to mine.

Have you checked to see if the HCH panel will work on your car?

I have not - I considered ordering it just to see if it would fit, but I decided to hold off after "eyeballing" diagrams and noticing a difference between HCH and non-hybrid front subframe / engine cradles (which I assume the cover attaches to).

Does the cover attach to the subframe/engine cradle, or ???

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. I hope there aren't too many differences between 03 civics and 05.

no rush - and thanks in advance for the effort and pics :D

did a quick search and 03/04/05 HCH-I's share the same part number for the lower engine cover; unless the search tool I'm using is bogus, they should be the same.

I took some. I'll upload any that came out okay later tonight.

I took a bunch (about a dozen or so) The quality of them is not that great but maybe by examining them you can get an idea. I zipped them up because of the quantity. The zip file is about 10M so I hope you have broadband. It will probably take an hour to download them ;)
