Goooooooooood morning, all.

I guess Sean's a little too busy to start this thread this week. ;)

43.4 MPG this morning.

44.5 on the way in with the Matrix with bad traffic on my last leg.

Finally got the SG back in the car when I hooked up the block heater. Gotta retime it now that the car is kept in a garage.

61.5 mpg this morning.

My tank is steady at 62.7 mpg and 700.0 miles. Only 3 other times I've been here, and the Low Fuel light is still fading in and out. I smell a record distance coming... And the SG must be underreporting, comparing the miles and the gauge level.

I'm not really all that concerned about whether a tailgater will hit me (unless it is a huge vehicle).

According to traffic laws, if you are rear ended, it's the other person's fault (failure to follow at a safe distance).

I almost got rear-ended by a speeding boxtruck this morning, so yes, I am afraid of getting hit by a tailgater. He must have been doing at least 70 MPH in the right lane up a 5% grade when he came within inches of my bumper before peeling off down the exit lane.

64.5 - 9.7 this morning. I pressed up my tires to 70 PSI to make up for the colder weather. Pressing up tires is the answer to all fuel-economy related failures :)

33.7 mpg / 1.7 miles
27.5 / 0.2

My 80+mpg days are over.:(:ccry: Despite a 10mph tailwind this morning, the light rain and cold temps(upper 30'sF) did me in. This afternoon I still had the cold temps(upper 30'sF) and the light rain but the wind was a 10-15mph 45* headwind.:(
1. 72.8-11.0(home to work)
2. 70.0-12.0(work to home)
Average for today was 71.3 and the tank is at a sad 78.9 after 46.5 miles.

What 70 PSI giveth in the morning, a 20MPH headwind with rain/snow taketh away.

35 degrees, snow (it was 90 degrees this time last year).

56.1 - 10.2 (class to home)

41.1 MPG this morning. I'm going to need to fill up soon. I'm not looking forward to it. I'll have to fill with winter gas. :(

43.9 in the Matrix this morning for me. It was up to a very nice 45 and climbing until I had to take a detour.

Another tough day on the FE #'s.:( I had upper 30'sF for both parts of the commute. The winds were from the NW@ ~5 mph this morning but they had switched to 10-15 mph from the west which was a full-on headwind.
1. 79.4-11.0(home to work)
2. 65.8-12.1(work to home)
Average for today was 71.6 and the tank is in the basement at 76.1 after 69.8 miles.:(

85mpg to the polls....they say lots of accidents on Election Day. ;)

I voted "Yes". I'm more concerned about getting a proctologist examination while driving, than not.

Two incidents on my drive to work this morning. 35 MPH, coasting to the red light in the left thru lane - right lane ends at the light. Car passes me on the right, only to cut back in front of me, into the left turn lane.

Proctologist riding my bumper half a mile, only to abruptly turn right, into a residential area. Guess he had to get home to pee really bad.

ps: I'm at 43.4 MPG, purely city driving, since I last filled up 10-4-08 at $3.47/gallon. Lowest price 'round here today is $2.35. I've got 120 miles to empty, so says SGII.

68.3 this morning. It was nice and "warm" like Delta had.

I had a right lane passer flapping hands at me. I was maintaining my steady speed, just below the limit. Apparently some drivers can't bother to look ahead past the car that's stuck on their front bumper.

I had another truck pass me in the left turn lane. 1/4 mile ahead, we both stopped at the red light. It was already red when he passed me.

I struggled for 40.2 MPG this morning with one passenger. It was not my normal commute, so that could have been one reason for the lower numbers. That fact that it was 33ºF didn't help either.

To answer the poll question, on my bike, YES! The one thing I don't like about it is that the taillights are integrated with the turn signal lights. They're a bit on the small side and I've watched people in my mirrors gang up and suddenly notice I'm braking/turning and slam on the brakes. Because of that, I'm almost glad that my fav colour was dropped for '09 which forced me to go for my second fav colour scheme. It has a much more visible orange color in it.

Filled up Mustang. Curiously enough, I got 15,22, about a half MPG better than it averages, and that in colder weather, in the 30's in the mornings. Too, that carb must have been tuned in cooler weather, because it idles 100% better and seems to have double the power...which I was using *blush*. I'm thinking this was some kind of anomaly. I'm sure the pump didn't click off early.

Thanks to a slightly higher afternoon temp than what I've been getting, today's numbers were a bit better. I had 30F for the morning segment and 57F for the trip home. Winds were ~5mph from the SW this morning and 5-10mph from the S with gusts to 20mph.
1. 73.9-11.0(home to work)
2. 75.6-11.0(work to home)
Average for today was 74.7 and the tank is down another tick to 75.1 after 114 miles.

truly a Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde day today.

56.5 - 9.7 (home to class)
62.1 - 15.3 (class to a possible job)
81.7 - 5.4 (the possible job coming home)

I think I *may* have figured out finally how to drive in the city with that 80+ segment, all on a 35MPH main road :)

39.18L for 880km resulting in 4,45L/100km or 22,46KM/L
or translated
10.35g for 546.8m resulting in 1,89G/100miles or 52.83MPG

My best tank ever.:woot:
And I'm not even FASing or HS P&G

For those interested: I paid
1.155€/L resulting in € 45.25 for the whole tank.
or translated
5.55$/g resulting in $ 54.86 for the whole tank.

The missus took the middle boy to pre-school in the Elantra today, so it was warmed up when I left. Yeesh, what a difference. I was at 37 MPG average by the time I hit the highway. 42.4 overall on the way in (had to stop and get bugs for the frogs/lizard). My low point of the day was a dude hauling !@# pulling a trailer right before my exit in Durham. He rode my butt, which didn't make sense to me as I was following another truck at a 2 car distance at the speed limit, then sifted over one lane. He floored it, and shifted over in between a flat bed tow truck and another truck pulling a trailer. Tow truck dude got pissed and slammed his brakes, and the other two almost bought it. Scary stuff, man, scary stuff.

(Anyone want a dead car battery?)
What happened?

We went to vote. For various reasons, today was a much better day than Tuesday to do this. The polling place had a sign on the door.

"We will be at ________ other location for the week."

_______ is ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN! I didn't have time to make that extra trip, and then back to work, on my lunch break. 2 votes that will likely not happen. Oh well. Whether I like it or not, McCain in Texas is pretty much a done deal.

50 mpg there, 77.5 back. Which way is uphill?

Winter isn't even here yet but with the results I had with today's temps, I CAN'T WAIT FOR SPRING!:p I had 48F this morning and the wind was from the S@ ~5mph. This afternoon, it was up to 71F and the winds were from the SW@ ~5mph.
1. 76.1-11.0(home to work)
2. 56.6-2.9(work to meet my wife at the veterinarian's office-the loyal pup had a check-up)
3. 77.3-9.3(vet's to the BP in Wakarusa for a soda)
4. 147-5.9(BP to home)
Average for today was 81.7 and the tank is .5mpg from yesterday to 75.6 after 143 miles.

From the looks of segment 4, it looks like I'm not taking too much of an mpg hit due to the new tires breaking in.:D By the time spring rolls around again they should be thoroughly scrubbed so I can get back to 90mpg tanks again.

Just a quick note for the Daily Grind (weekly for me).

I filled up with my first "hypermiling" tank at the beginning of the week and got 29.3 mpg.

On my second "hypertank" that went in today, I managed 31.4 even with the really cold mornings we have been having.

10-31-2008, 06:23 PM
The colder temps are beggining to take a significant chunk out of mileage. The morning temps were in mid 40's and afternoon wasin mid 60's. During the warmer weather, those mpg numbers would havebeen 3+ than what it is now. So I am losing about 8-10% just by the temps. :( I don't even want to think about a full blown winter mileage mess.

30.8 MPG over 16.8 miles from home towork.
31.8 MPG over 16.8 miles from work to home.

The tank sits at 129 miles and 28.2 MPG.

A decent day today for FE. Temps were in the low to mid 50'sF and winds have been ~5mph from the NE.
1. 74.3-9.1(home to Meijer)
2. 78.9-12.2(Meijer to my mom's)
3. 83.3-.7(mom's to Dollar General)
4. 96.5-4.8(DG to home)
5. 72.6-5.4(home back to DG because my dear, sweet, beloved wife forgot something;))
6. 103-5.3(DG to home, again)
Average for today was 81.3 and the tank is back up to 76.7 after 181 miles.

Or less...my Ma had an '05 Sienna. Granted, it was an AWD but she averaged only about 17,5 with it and even on ski trips (mostly freeway driving) we barely made 21mpg. If either of you are getting 20 with it, I'd say you're in gooooood shape.

We went to a wedding on Saturday in the Escape. My wife insisted on driving down there but had to fill up after the ceremony. I drove from the gas station to the reception (had 'er up to 32.6mpg at one point on the built in display -- which is 0.7mpg optimistic). Traffic and hills kept the average lower than I wanted to see it for the trip home, but I parked it at 29.7mpg on the display (so a 29.0mpg even) over 69.7mi. It took just two trips for my wife to drop that down into the 26's. :p
