View Full Version : 61mpg tank
tarabell 08-06-2006, 12:28 PM I was very happy not only to see 604 miles on this tank, but even 3 squares of fuel still left on the gauge.
Factors:
Several excellent days with >70mpg segments going to work. Best was 72mpg. These seemed to happen when I left home later than usual, so driving in heavier traffic. Being in the right lane I’d have to coast when traffic merged in front of me at the onramps, then speed up again. Next few onramps repeated the same pattern. (I’m normally braindead that hour of the morning but wish you could have seen the :lightbulb: flashing on at that point…)
Most all my roundtrips clocked in the 60's
This is also the first tank where my husband didn’t drive my car, so I can actually finally give my foot some credit.
I didn’t use the A/C, even on the 100+ days. I must have looked a fright coming home in the afternoon -- red-faced, hair frizzed.
Not a factor:
Tires – I checked this weekend and they weren’t 44psi as I’d requested at the dealer-- the numnuts who did the oil change a couple weeks ago apparently put them right at 40, what’s on the tire. Wonder if they have liability issues.
psyshack 08-06-2006, 04:11 PM Good job Tara!!! Very impressed :)
Im hitting a wall at the 50 mpg mark in my EX. I was working on a 700 mile tank. dosent look like Im going to get it. Had a bad comute one day and it wrecked it. So Ive been in salvage mode ever since.
philmcneal 08-06-2006, 04:13 PM 1000 km the magic number! push for more and wow 100+ on no ac, man im still a wimp when it comes to hot weather :(
congrats!!
did your car had any probs autostopping in that 100 + weather tarabell? how did you keep the hybrid battery happy?

Phil you know I saw no battery issues at all. As long as the a/c was off it stayed reasonably up and acted normally. Didn't have to do anything :)
Not like that day with the family. That was only in the high '80s but they insisted on a/c, my poor battery got hammered down to 2-3 bars -- no AS, my FE went down to the '20s, and I was ready for a suicide pact with my car. After that I said never again.
Psy there's a 700 mile tank waiting for us both. Matter of patience and coaxing it out.
Hi Tarabell:
___You brought a tear to my eye. God bless you for doing what it took, the achievement, and for finally getting the chance to drive your HCH-II for an entire tank. All this doing what you do best in and amongst the nutty LA traffic!
___Just .1 mpg to go to become a recognized hypermiler! Tell your husband he can bike to the health club from now on or there are going to be big changes in the Tarabell household ;)
___Good Luck and congratulations.

.1 tenth,,, She should be give expert. I know how it is to battle a spouse. I gave up on the Accord. Wife would take my best efforts and ruin them.
Tara is a expert in my minds eye!!!!!!
Go girl Go!!!!!
tigerhonaker 08-06-2006, 10:21 PM Hey tara,

HyChi 08-07-2006, 08:31 AM Wow, Tara, you still had 3 bars to go??? You could've gotten, what, a 750+ mile tank??? Awesome! Congratulations!! maybe someday I'll get there too. :)
Chuck 08-07-2006, 09:11 AM That was 25% over EPA?
Way to go!
Fantastic, not long till you join the 700 mile club.

Just two minutes after reading this, someone mentioned that 700 Club founder Pat Roberson believes in Global Warming - Hallelujah! :D
tbaleno 08-07-2006, 11:40 AM I've already done one 700 mile tank. This will be my second. The first 700 mile tank was topped off this one was from first click
tarabell 08-08-2006, 10:39 AM Thanks everyone for the encouraging words.
But about that one-tenth... :ccry:  :ccry:
Well at least the hard part is over, this tank was like hitting an eagle and now the next tank will tap it in. :Banane35:
Not to worry Wayne, husband is using my daughter's car for his short trips till she goes back to college, so this next tank should be all mine as well.
After that....well....everyone needs a handicap, right? Did you, ahem, get the P&G reference above? ;)
