Did you know that every day in the US, 7% of the oil is spent from truckers ideling? -- Ed.

A truck stop is an assault on the senses, especially on a hot summer day. There's the smell of diesel, the taste of exhaust fumes and the nerve-jangling, ever-present rumble of truck engines -- even when the drivers are asleep.

Typically, truckers idle their engines during warm weather while they're resting, to keep the air conditioning on and the cabs cool… http://www.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/10/06/trucks.idling.bluecool/index.html

I was unable to open the linked page, but as we see more of the stops with the electrical and HVAC hookups this will become the exception and when looking back we will think what was going on back then?

IdleAire was apparently a dismal failure; too hard to use and
maintain. Maybe this will be better. Many truckers are installing
a small APU [read: little Honda generator] slung under the
tractor somewhere that provides enough power to run nominal
climate control, but for 1-2 gallons burned overnight instead
of 10 or more in the big diesel. It can also keep the diesel
warm by circulating APU coolant in some of the newer systems.

AAARRRGGH

20.680 million barrels oil US consumed in 2007

2.950 million barrels UltraLow Sulfur Diesel (road fuel) consumed in 2007
This means 14.265% of US Oil consumed was used as diesel. Even if we include Low Sulfur- only 16.8% of US Oil is used in all trucks and buses (moving and nonmoving), cars, and much off road machinery. 7% of US Oil Consumption used in ideling trucks/buses is not remotely possibly.

Slick math by Webasto to sell their units. LAZY journalism by CNN (nothing new there).

Sorry Chuck, but something didn't smell right.
