View Full Version : Anyone have this problem?

Twice last week I was backing into a parking slot at work when some guy or gal whips around the corner of the aisle next to the one where I'm parking and gets right on my bumper WHILE I'M IN REVERSE. Once the guy started blowing his horn, and what got his attention was when I blew my little "QUAAAAAACK!" back at him, rolled the window down and yelled, "IF YOU CAN'T SEE MY REVERSE LIGHTS THEN YOU'RE BLIND!!!" With that he gave a really sheepish look and backed up enough for me to back into the space.

The second one wasn't so easy. He wouldn't budge. I had to move forward just enough to pull alongside the dumbbutt, and then make a sharp turn in order to turn the car so that the nose of the car is behind the dumbbutt's rear bumper and my bumper is heading for the parking space. It took a lot of sharp twists and turns.

Any suggestions?

Personally, with the second guy, I would have just sat there until he backed up. Eventually he would have gotten tired of it. I'm really, really stubborn and I might have even thrown it in park and got out of the car and just stood there waiting for him to move. I've run into this problem before and I will usually just sit there. I can be a very patient person when needed, so I can probably outlast most people.

Mine are usually when I'm trying to parallel park, I use my signal toward the spot and pull up and kick it in reverse. If the person behind me doesn't give room, I'll just sit in the middle of the road until he gives me room.

I go for the pull-through spots, but those aren't always available. If they're not, I can be patient like NateS.

One idea I've done a few times is just very slowly back up towards your spot. They will eventually get the idea that they are in your way. Either they move or their car gets hit.

Or get out and push backwards. That way you don't have to worry about wasting gas waiting for them to move, and the action of you pushing the car might get some pity points.

I've thought about the first one.

As for the second one...little bitty gal pushing a 3000 pound car? Hmmm...might work. Might backfire if my supervisor came out or was parked beside me (which has happened before).

How would it backfire?
