On my way to work I plan my route to go through a school zone just to have an excuse to go 25 in 4th gear. The school zone ends at 5 PM. It was about 4:45-4:50 when I went through it. Anyways this truck towing a trailer gets right up on my bumper. I'm talking about <3 ft away (no exaggeration). I have always gone slow through that school zone mainly because my 4 y/o goes to that school. Anyways, the guy in the truck hits his horn, I look in my mirror and put my hands up in a "what?" manner. The passenger does the same thing back. Keeping one eye on the truck and the other on the road I see the driver of the truck reach out his window and hold up 4 fingers followed by 0, indicating I should be going 40 MPH (the limit during non-school times). I then roll my window down and point directly at the school (which we haven't even gotten to yet), he then gives me about 10 ft. At the end of the school zone I get up to 40 MPH, then the limit soon goes up to 50. Keeping one eye on the truck since he loved ridding my bumper I soon notice that he is only going about 45 in the 50 zone. I take advantage of this and lock my speed in at 46-47. If he was in such a hurry through that school zone why did he go under the limit afterward.

Get a pic, call it in, have a nice little discussion about
school zones, speed limits being UPPER limits, not lower, etc.
Have the company be sure to remind all its drivers that they
have no right to be within 4 seconds of ANYBODY, for any reason,
and that with the economy on the tipping point maybe they really
want to hold on to their jobs after all.
.
Zero tolerance.

I don't know if it was a company vehicle. I couldn't have gotten his plates since Indiana only requires plates on the back and not the front.

Do they have crossing guards monitering the school zone? Most of the zones I drive thru have crossing guards and have timed lights to indicate when the school zone is in effect. Sounds to me like this zone may need an extra set of eyes to moniter it.

No, cops will usually sit there around the time school starts and ends. But other than that it's just the occasional cop that drives through on patrol. The town itself is really small, only one stoplight. I think at night they only have 2 cops on duty.

"Your" trucker is lucky! In OH marked school zones during school hours are 20 MPH, zero tolerance. Sounds like you had a good "conversation" with the trucker.

The speed limit is zero tolerance anywhere in the state of Ohio given the number of state highway patrol vehicles there are. I see someone pulled over once every mile or so (yet the drivers still haul ass).
I don't know where the revenue is going but I remember hitting a lot of potholes on I-75 last time I went to Dayton.
