about 2 miles from home on my commute from work, i drive on a winding, 2 lane, no shoulder road. it starts with a 15MPH right curve into a hard left curve at the top of 3 small hills. there is a car a bit behind me as i make the left curve and going down the first hill are about a dozen CC skiiers on their wheeled skis. i put on my flashers and slow down to about 30. i pull over to the left as much as i can, since it quickly goes back up hill and i know drivers come by quickly. the driver behind me almost acts as if he's going to pass, but sees the skiiers and pulls in behind me.
we crest the hill and head down, and they spread the word between them and all move as far to the right as they safely can. i am still hanging left as best i can, as a car turns into the left lane coming toward us. he has turned off the road i need to turn left onto at the bottom of the hill. past that turn off, the road veers right over a small rise, and out of the sunny stretch into one with deep shade.
as i clear the last of the skiiers and move right, along with the car right behind me, a pickup truck belatedly joins the party and is on the butt of the car behind me. i turn off my flashers and put on my left turn signal. you have to know what's coming.....the pickup has barely pulled back into the right lane past the skiiers, and pulls out to pass me AND the car behind me.....on a double line, past my left turn, into the double lined rise and into the shade, where visibility is very limited.
well, i stuck my left arm out the window, both to give the driver (some young yahoo with friends in the truck) the universal #1 signal and visibly indicate that "HEY YOU MORON, I AM TURNING LEFT RIGHT HERE AND THIS ENTIRE STRETCH IS A NO PASSING ZONE!!!"
i managed to hang him out to dry and he had not wait not only for me to complete my turn, but he ended up right back behind the car that had been behind me.
how do drivers get so STUPID??? had a truck been coming toward us from the shaded area, which happens frequently and usually at least 50MPG, we would have had a hell of mess, what with the skiiers, and 3 vehicles trying to share the road..
to say i was pissed would have been an understatement.
