A few days back, I saw a full-sized GMC Yukon with 2 rosaries hanging from the rear view mirror. Perhaps the driver is praying for lower gas prices.
Today I saw a second-generation Prius with a radar detector. I couldn't help but wonder what he needed that for. But then I remembered how many hybrids blow by me on a regular basis - I guess they gave at the office.

maybe the yukon is praying he doesn't run out of gas.
as for the prius, that's just totally unacceptable.

Maybe the SUV driver prays for the Prius driver, who should read the bumper sticker and admit gas prices suck.

I guess I am the lone wolf in voting yes. Radar detectors are illegal in most Canadian provinces. To me, a radar detector just seems like a way to drive faster (and therefore more dangerously) while still having a good chance of avoiding getting a ticket for it. But then again, I have no experience with them, so what do I know?

Another vote for yes. Isn't their sole purpose to enable people to prevent police from enforcing the law.
Edit: This is a bit hypocritical of me. I sometimes coast down hills in neutral, which is also illegal. So, I don't always follow the letter of the law when driving either. How much difference is there between breaking the law and avoiding police efforts to detect you breaking the law?

I use mine to let me know when it's safe to take off my tinfoil hat.

I’ve kept my radar detector even after I’ve started HM. It’s a nice situational awareness tool. I know when a cop is nearby and people start driving erratically. Like abruptly slowing down, rubber necking, or watching their review mirrors for the cop and drifting out of the lane! I’ve had the latter happen quite often! I just slow down now and give them a bigger buffer, and coasting down helps my FE. :D
Also my Passport 8500 displays the car’s voltage when no radar is present. Helps keep on eye out for the long FAS’s at night! And I don’t have to use a gauge on my SG for it.

If finances allowed I would have one in my car. I've been harassed several times by small town cops who had nothing better to do.
I've also been pulled over for - and I quote - 67 in a 65. This was by some Ohio Highway Patrol yahoo who must've been short when it was quota time.
