Across town on a warm engine and digging for every ounce of FE I could find.

So...25mpg city, right? Wish I could double it every time!

Congratulations!

Just for fun, reset ScanGage and let it coast down a hill. It will read: "9999MPG" :D

Just for clarification, that's not one of the commuting segments. That's one of my office-to-office jaunts between facilities to pick up parts from manufacturing. So far my best commute was a 47.0mpg, with my second best a 44.8mpg this morning (I have a FCD shot of that one for the collection, too :D).

I think a 50mpg in-bound commute is possible but it's going to take measures beyond what I've been doing up to this point. I'm afraid the limiting factor is all the people who speed through the residential areas and pile up on my bumper like angry pancakes. I feel that I have a responsibility to drive a little more "normally" when that happens since they really don't have a way to get around me. Except this one guy, but that's a topic for a different post.

The other problem with my commute is that I'm forced to hop on the highway for ~6mi as I approach the office. I'm normally approaching 50mpg on the ScanGauge as I exit the back roads but it gets knocked down from there.

Tim, does the back route also save you time? Or do you get to work with about the same travel time? Just curious. Getting that amazing mpg and finding a shorter commute must be sweet!

My commute takes about the same amount of time. My average speed is 30-31mph on the back road, which is down from 44-45mph average on the highway, so it just about balances out with the 12-16mi round-trip reduction depending on which office I'm headed for.
