I am looking for a delivery vehicle to replace the D-van when it kick da bucket. Today on the way home from a fishin' outing I saw a beautiful white ranger pickup for sale, it was nice looking, 2wd, and already had a topper ( I need this for deliveries)
Well I do a quick u- turn in the semiaccoustic and go check it out.
my heart sank when i looked in the window and saw it had an automatic transmission.:(
I won't even consider buying a AT vehicle. I would take one for free, like I did my van though:rolleyes:.
Well, after recoiling in disgust and looking up, I noticed there was another one behind it that was gold, wasn't quite as nice, had a few dents on the right rear fender and bumper, and no topper.
I thought, no way, not a chance! but just for yuks I walked over and peeeeked in the window...
It has a 5 speed stick! now were talking!
I called and left a message that i was interested in more info.
I need to find out if it is a 4 cylinder, will not even consider another beastly V6!
it has 86,000 miles, looks to be some sort of fleet vehicle.
Anyone know if this might be a good buy?
I know some members here are getting great FE with their rangers.

here it is 4500 Or best offer on the side window...

kind of an ugly dent, but I could live with it if I am getting 40+ mpg!

Looks like somebody sideswiped them near or on the rear tire.

If that's a banged out body panel, I'd check the tires and powertrain Real Carefully to make sure its alright- otherwise it might be no better than a salvage titled truck. Did you get the VIN to check title history?

I don't know exactly where/when you drive, but my memory of Twin Cities winters is that ice from frozen exhaust on -5F mornings makes any driving technical--a 2WD pickup would probably make that more challenging than a minivan would. The Twin Cities are pretty flat, so you could probably work around that. If you do a lot of driving in snow before the roads are cleared, the extra ground clearance might come in handy. If you have small deliveries it might be worth putting in a slider window so you can reach small packages in back from the cab.

I think Ranger could probably work for you and be able to pull a small fishing boat too:), but there may be better vehicles for your needs. I've noticed that medical couriers around here often run Focus Wagons, so those might be worth checking out. $4500 seems a little high for that truck in that condition and most people don't want the MT, so you should be able to work a deal to get a lower price and/or the topper from the other truck.

Yeah, I have pretty much decided to look for something cheaper. I pretty much need to find a perfect truck to spend that much, I only have about 2500, so I would be taking on a little debt, I would rather not do that.
I agree rwd pickups are bad in snow and i c e I had a 99 ranger and it would have terrible traction, while the van would drive through anything. It would be a tradoff, better fuel economy, but bad traction on slippery days.
We don't have too many snow days though, last year after xmas the roads were pretty much dry all winter. plus I could use my van or my fwd subcompact car on snow days too.

I'm not sure I would want a fleet truck, even if it was priced perfectly. Have you seen how hard those things are driven?

Try craigslist..should be some clean low mileage trucks being sold privately.

I know I sold my Ranger on there and it was a low mileage v6 only thing wrong w/ it was faded paint and the guy got a steal on it for $2900 about year and a half ago. Only downside to my truck while I couldn't get more was that it was org. from Northern Calf. and had no a/c so that made it a tough sell down south. It was an honest 36k miles on a 93 model though, I now regret selling it since it was such a good truck (drove like it was brand new!!)
