A questions for any TDI owners: I'm planning a test ride but I'm wondering about being able to judge fuel economy while on the run. Does the TDI come with an FE tracker or display? The VW website is woefully secretive about the diesels.

I'm thinking of bringing the SGII but I'm wondering how the sales person will react or if I'll even be allowed.

Anyone taken a ride in the new TDI's yet? I'm never had the pleasure but the past few months have left me wishing I'd waited another few months and considered a Jetta. I miss torque :(

I have a test drive scheduled for Thursday. I'll report back with some pics and a short review!

Hi GreenVTEC:

___Jud (Bestmapman) has test drove the Jetta but I forgot if it was the stick or DSG – Auto? IIRC, the dealership let him take it out on his own so hook up a SG-II and have at it.

___WRT your 1.3L HCH-II, you still have SAHM and that thing is “da bomb” although I suspect the new 2.0L TDI super-diesel will perform even better out on the highway if its anything like the iCDTi. Just says it is ;)

@xcel

Did he do a review of it, or post some numbers?

Hi Koreberg:

___There is no point to a review off a test drive. There is an individual that wrote one up on the Jetta TDI for a site a few weeks ago but it was all about squealing tires and how his dad could drive it or some other such silly thing :(

___Good Luck

Thnx for the link Xcel!

And yes, it's the highway numbers that are the big attracting factor. I'm pretty such I'm not going to be dumping a few month old car for another, especially considering how they'll gut me with financing and addons.

I have to give VW credit too. 10 minutes after I send quote request I got a data center call, an hour later the dealership rings. The only issue is the closest available TDI is out of state. Not sure how that complicates things but it's probably for the best. I don't want to fall in love and sign away.

Every indication is that the test drive TDI's have a 'MFD' (aka Multifuntional Display)

Show both Trip & Tank MPG & last 10,000 Mile MPGs among other items

most VW/Audis have had them for at least 10 years.

In my car its between 1/2% to 5% off the pump.
