Aether glider 08-25-2008, 10:32 AM Whats up with those people trademarking EcoDriving?? How can you trademark a name you didn't even coin??
Here. (http://blogs.edmunds.com/greencaradvisor/2008/08/website-helps-motorists-become-fuel-efficient----and-automakers-appear-green.html)
atlaw4u 08-25-2008, 10:45 AM How can you trademark a name you didn't even coin??
Because it has not been trademarked. That's like the person who recently started hypermiling.com. Maybe we should trademark "hypermiling"
Aether glider 08-25-2008, 11:01 AM first come first serve with trademarking i guess.
fixedintime 08-25-2008, 11:01 AM They might have a hard time making the trademark stick as a trademark can be lost if the term becomes common in the language. Zerox fought for years to get people not to use the term "Zerox" for making copies just to protect their trademark. I would suspect that if the case were to be made that the term ecodriving is already in common use - as it may be elsewhere in the world then those who got the trademark may have a very hard time defending it in any venue.
The laws can get very complex and messy on these kinds of things.
HI Reid:
___Tell me how to proceed :)

Chuck 08-25-2008, 11:21 AM I'd love for the AAA and other detractors to consider their implications of epidemic semi drafting, etc. would have to hold up in a courtroom.
Shiba3420 08-25-2008, 12:31 PM I feel for you Elijah....I suspect you just shook up a crate of poison snakes & jumped in....
Damionk 08-25-2008, 12:41 PM I better get out my wading overalls and boots. It's about to get really deep.
Chuck 08-25-2008, 01:35 PM The trollbait and the troller has been removed
Shiba3420 08-25-2008, 01:42 PM Was his provider notified or is there a way to prevent him from showing up again (ip filtering)?
Hi Elijah:
___Oh boy, here we go ;)
___You are a drafter. Sorry but you are. Anyone on any highway in America is. Fortunately, we can try and avoid it. You haven’t realized this yet and are still part of the herd in a less than 2-second following distance and you do not even know it :(

___Yup, that is you in any of the vehicles ahead in that pic and for tens if not hundreds of miles ahead. Notice where I am? The vehicle the pic was taken from pulled a 53 mpg segment that day staying back and driving the speed limits all the way from the WI border to Midway airport in Chicago. I was enjoying the free traffic side while you were in a Close-in about to smash into the vehicle in front of you wherever you drive… Got it yet? Back the **** off already and learn what we do and how we do it. Otherwise, get out of Dodge.
___The drafters work for the AAA even though they love to point their fingers at everyone else.
___Good Luck

Markmysite 08-25-2008, 07:36 PM Wow, I had been on that ecodriving.com website a few days back and thought they did a nice job of laying out some tips in an easy format. Now that I see they trademarked a term that has been around for years so they can potentially control content later, I'm boycotting it. :)
YarSwiss 08-26-2008, 12:35 AM Ecodriving has been used as a term in Europe for over 50 years, so if they want to try and control the usage of that term, have at it! I remember seeing it in some ad for a peugeot dating from the 50's, it was in french; "conduite ecologique" or "eco-conduite", but it's the same thing in English :p
JusBringIt 08-26-2008, 12:40 AM ...I was in a truck yesterday...it was less than 0.5 seconds behind the car directly in front....
the car in front of that car was ahead by less than a second...why do hypermilers get chewed out in regards to drafting? This is beyond me as most drivers tailgate.
btw, you bet I was nervous in that truck...
Shiba3420 08-26-2008, 08:52 AM You know some people will get the trademark so others can't get & control it later. Perhaps they did that to prevent others from messing with them later, but without any intention of enforing it themselves. Before boycotting or other measures, maybe we should just ask thier intent.
lamebums 08-26-2008, 11:21 AM Just this morning I saw a white Tundra tailgating a van on the long offramp to NKU (it's a half-mile long offramp). A Jeep was tailgating the truck, and then a Civic was on the Jeep's butt. Well, the van gets on the brakes, and then in quick succession I see the screeching and brake lights come up on all the other cars.
People never learn.
