View Full Version : 5th DUI - Tested at 0.47 Chuck 08-21-2008, 11:41 PM Why has he been allowed to go loose this long? Story (http://www.wsbtv.com/news/17235335/detail.html) JusBringIt 08-22-2008, 12:19 AM Our justice system is all about money..then again, what isnt? bomber991 08-22-2008, 12:44 AM Well he said it had been 15 years since he got arrested for a dui, and actually it was 9 years. Still pretty good math considering his bac was 0.47, lol. But yeah, I thought there were better systems in place to keep dui offenders off the roads. psychojuggalo17 08-22-2008, 01:56 AM i didnt read it, but i heard a story from my parents about a guy in MT who just recieved his 14th DUI r something. it was awhile back, and ill have to look for the story. hes lucky to be alive with a BAC of .47, especially since he was behind the wheel. the LD50 of alcohol is .45 r .50 i believe lamebums 08-22-2008, 03:21 AM With a BAC of 0.47 I'm surprised he's still alive. I know a guy who has 17 DUI's. Of course, the majority of them were when a DUI meant a ticket and a "drive carefully" message from the cop. Or he'd follow you home to make sure you made it. And yes, he still has a license. Kurz 08-23-2008, 08:09 PM How can he be charged with DUI when He wasn't even driving? Cherokee County police said 37-year-old Mark Douglas stumbled across a Woodstock parking lot to his car with a beer in his hand. The car's engine was running. Woodstock police credit a watchful bystander for calling 911 before Douglas got on the road. fuzzy 08-23-2008, 08:19 PM How can he be charged with DUI when He wasn't even driving? In some (most?) states, one doesn't have to be driving, merely in control of the vehicle. In those states, a drunk who wants to sleep it off in the vehicle must not have the ignition key to the vehicle. JusBringIt 08-23-2008, 08:44 PM i got a ticket for driving w/ a susp. license though I was not driving...this was in NY state. SD3_Driver 08-23-2008, 09:55 PM .47??? that's almost a case of alcohol poisoning.... he's lucky to be alive.. He wasn't driving. >.> He could be listening to tunes. ^^ Of course that's a no-no for us hyper milers to have the engine idling. dwp4401 08-24-2008, 05:43 AM I am a paramedic, working in a major metropolitian area, who runs into guys like this on a regular basis. A BAC of 0.47 is not a rare occurance by any stretch of the imagination. It is the hallmark of a professional drinker that is likely intoxicated every day. There are a surprising number of folks like this walking around. I have seen dozens of BAC's above 0.60 and had one guy registering 0.70 that was actually able to walk and threatening to kick my butt. jps000 08-24-2008, 08:04 AM In France, if you cause an accident that results in death, with ANY amount of Alcohol in you (I mean even half of glass of wine) you have automatic jail time. The drinking limit, otherwise, is 0.05 for driving. worthywads 08-24-2008, 04:47 PM I am a paramedic, working in a major metropolitian area, who runs into guys like this on a regular basis. I work next to a guy that has been clean for around 8 years now that fits your description. Prior to quitting he figured he was never below a .2 or over 3 times the limit. He'd start his day at one of many different liquor stores buying up a days supply of the little bottles. He said he was only pulled over once in nearly 15 years of this behavior, and when the cop mentioned alcohol he claimed it was paint fumes, he's a sign maker. Never missed a day of work, he owned the company, and very few people had a clue he was intoxicated at all times. Even more surprising, he somehow had his wife and family totally unaware. Some alcoholics truly are only getting themselves relatively straight to avoid DTs at alcohol levels that would have the rest of us falling down or dead. Aether glider 08-26-2008, 10:30 PM Sorry, but that seems like Minority Report. Doesn't matter if you can at any point take control of the vehicle while intoxicated you will get a DUI. passed out, asleep, just sitting there, etc as long as you can start the car your considered DUI. I guess in theory if your drunk you could throw your keys in the grass or something, maybe hide the keys in the trunk as long as the police can't locate the keys you could argue in court that you couldn't start the vehicle so you were just public intoxication instead of DUI. The police are trained to look everywhere for the keys though. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
