Hey everyone!
If you happened to notice my earlier thread concerning buying a Prius, you'd know that I just purchased an 04 Prius (for my wife, I still bang out 90+ mpg commutes in the Insight... on the highway. ;) ).
The tires on it were completely shot, so I replaced them with factory size Falken Ziex 912s. These are *not* an LRR tire, but are quite a bit stickier, better in rain. Also a solid 35% cheaper tire. Hopefully a bit safer as well, as this is for the wife / family car.
Compared to the Insight, the Prius is far more comfortable, smoother, and all around easier to drive. I'll still maintain that the Insight is more *fun* to drive, far sportier, and way easier to get killer mpg without trying ;) Having read plenty of threads concerning P2 driving techniques, I was performing 40-30 P&G, Warp Stealth, and Warp Neutral from day one in the driver's seat.
Her first 1/2 tank was right at 55 mpg, mixed city / highway driving with the A/C set comfortably at 78*F. This is right in line with pre-08 EPA standards, so I think she is doing fairly well, and should be seeing 60 mpg+ when A/C is not needed. I will be picking up an EBH for her for the colder months ahead.
I've personally had some 90+ mpg segments with the A/C off, and at least one 60mi RT highway jaunt at 65 mpg (~50 mph). No SG here, but carefully watching the iMPG display makes SHM fairly easy to find in ideal conditions.
All that to say, great car. Everything I hoped for for my family.
Can't wait to get the carseat and kid in the back seat. Due date is Mar 27, 09. :)
