View Full Version : Afraid to switch Vehicles?
MT bucket 08-09-2008, 09:47 PM Well, got the SG dialed in almost perfect, only .1 off my last 400 mile tank!
I have people who would like to try it out in their cars, whould it ruin my settings to unplug and plug into other vehicles?
It works sooo good, don't want to mess it up,
but i also want to spread the gospel of instant mpg epa busting lcd glory :D

diamondlarry 08-09-2008, 09:57 PM Hi Michael, I know what you mean on getting things dialed in. I've got mine that close too and it took quite awhile. You should be able to write down all of the settings so that you can re-enter them when you reinstall it. Of course, you would lose the tank data but you should be able to get the accuracy back.
MT bucket 08-09-2008, 10:06 PM Hi larry
Well, I was lucky, I got this close on my second tank!
I just don't want to ruin it, because next time it might be harder.
what setting should I write down?
Also, when trying it in other cars, will they have to do a fill and make settings like I did when starting out, or can I just plug it in and go and get fairly reasonable feedback to at least give people an idea of how it works and how they can improve their own mpg?
thanks
MT
diamondlarry 08-09-2008, 10:19 PM I would write down the settings for speed and the fill-up percentage. For example, my speed percentage is +3% and my fill-up percentage is +4%. The last few tanks have been either right on what the gas pump said or within a few hundredths of a gallon and the mpg was very close as well.
MT bucket 08-09-2008, 10:30 PM Hmmmm, I never even did a speed setting. why would this be important?
I don't remember my last fillup % but i can write it down at the next fill....
diamondlarry 08-09-2008, 11:00 PM It also affects the amount of distance that is registered which could affect the mpg calculation. The speed setting is in the setup section.
MT bucket 08-09-2008, 11:08 PM I will have to look at that, my last tank was 28.99mpg
while on the sg it was 28.8 mpg

It sounds like wherever your's is set is about perfect then. How close is it on the gallons used compared to the pump?
MT bucket 08-09-2008, 11:34 PM Pump, 13.89 gallons
SG 14 gallons
Right Lane Cruiser 08-09-2008, 11:36 PM That's pretty close. If I recall correctly you said that the distance reported by the SG was pretty much right at what the ODO shows?

That is very close indeed. One good thing about the SG being a shade on the low side for mpg is that it may make you work harder to bring up the average.:p Negative reinforcement?:D
fuzzy 08-10-2008, 12:17 AM Don't get too excited about having the gallons dialed in so close, because it is likely to drift away with seasonal changes in fuel blends. Remember that SG doesn't know actual fuel volume, it must make estimates based on other OBDII reports.
I've also found that a different mix of driving styles this week (a very sparsely traveled road allowed my first significant P&G practice) has pushed the SG off calibration. It is not yet very accurate in reporting when the engine enters and exits fuel cut-off. After showing the SG to my favorite mechanic, I learned that I should probably program for and watch the fuel trims too, to make sure the engine is maintaining an accurate air-fuel ratio. Engine control errors here will throw off SG's fuel estimates.
Good ahead, lend out your SG and make more HM converts. Just be sure to record your settings first.

Yes that is true! it was even lower the first tank, and I was kind of cussing at it, thinking this thing is being a taskmaster!
But at fill up time when I ended up with my best tank yet, I was quite the happy camper! :D

Cool! I am gonna do it! thanks fuzzy :)
MT bucket 08-10-2008, 07:26 PM Ugh, drove the car that cant have a scan gauge today, (thats its new name) :p
I had this lost feeling ...I am a scangauge a holic! Oh my!
But I have to drive it as long as it is running good when I don't need the van, because it is much more fuel efficient. That wouldn't be good hyperm ilin' wasting gas just so I can play with my sg! :D
It was kind of nice to be able to ice off coast again though! I gave two friends a ride into downtown today. They don't drive, so I didn't say anything about HM, but I must have done at least a dozon ice off coasts with bump starts, plus a few fas coming to red lights with key starts, neither noticed anything at all :D
Right Lane Cruiser 08-10-2008, 11:14 PM It is a freeing feeling isn't it, Michael? FASing, that is. I love the sensation of knowing exactly what the vehicle will do and being so involved in it by specifying exactly when, where, and how much fuel I'll be spending. :D

Welllll my consiousness has not quite got to that level yet master sean! :p :p
I wil keep at it like a good grass hopper :D
I tell ya though it is quite enjoyable to glide down the road in "accoustic mode" and not have to listen to that undergeared rattletrap motor running! :)
