I have not purchased a Scan Gauge yet. However, I will when money permits. I was just wondering if anyone with older vehicles ever use the "scan" feature on the Scan Gauge II. And how helpfull it really is.

The ScanGauge II can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and if found, can display how many there are and the Trouble Codes themselves.Using the internet or repair manuals, these can be translated to the failed component and repairs can be made.

I have used it on a few vehicles -- mine included. I think it is very useful -- particularly as if you determine it is harmless you can reset it yourself.

I helped by brother diagnose a code on his Toyota Sienna. Left the SG on for the afternoon trip to the store. Light flashed and saved to SG. Very easy, just got the code, check online, and determined the problem (lean burn bank 2). Came in very handy so now he can decide how much of a rush he is in to get to the repair shop (he is not good with cars to do the work himself).
