Answer:

Here's Roughly 250 to 300 Police cars. Picture this, 300 Police Cars, 75-Fleet Vehicles, 75 to 100 Stock vehicles.

All these arriving in approx. 60-Days time frame. Think about being outside in the Nice-Cool 95-100 Degree Heat. Once you get all these vehicles on the ground and situated. Then you get to Process all 400-500 vehicles. Can you say busy for 1-Person. try this going into the office at 12:05 AM and leaving the office at 4:30 PM.
Let's see is that like? "16 1/2 Hrs." :( Can you say? TIRED:

Had to do 3-Pics to even come close to getting the Vehicles in a single pic. Just spread out all over the place. These are in a Field, there are others in our normal lots next door to the field at the dealership.

Notice ,how close that it is to us leaving for Hybridfest 2006.

We leave on Thursday Morning. 3-Days from now: Came very-very close to me not being able to leave Dealership for Hybridfest 2006. :(

Hmm, they look pretty aero, actually... can you take one out
and try hypermiling it before it has to go off where it's going?
Slushbox in neutral, wheee...

Hi Terry:

___Can you give us the rundown on some of the inside info on these Police cruiser’s? MSRP vs. what the municipalities possibly paid, what kind of paperwork you needed to setup or complete, prep of the cars themselves (pulling plastic sheeting, etc.) and whatever else. I almost did a story on GM Fleet sales today and how they are cutting back by 60,000 units this year vs. last and last was 50,000 less then 04. GM stated they are making far more profit then in the past by pulling back on the give away and I would be very interested in hearing what the dealership sees on their end as far as profit margins and such.

___Good Luck

Wayne, I would just love to talk about the numbers, But I really do need my JOB. :p
BTW, I'm not kidding here, that info. is not for Public Release. Maybe I should say I can't take a chance on me being the one to release those Prices/Cost. Sorry :o No-Can Do: I guess I could go as far as to say this regarding that. The price that is paid for Police vehicles is way below the cost to a dealer. The dealer is reimbursed from GM as I understand it. Per-Unit-Ordered
Those numbers from GM to us as a Dealer I never see:

Egads! That's gotta hurt! You will really have earned your time off by the time you are finished. How much coffee did you have to drink just to stay alert through that??? You must've felt like you were in purgatory.

Wait ... so ... if they are not getting paid ... how are you?! I guess this part was non-commission work? I mean if they are selling at-a-loss, I hope you don't pay them your commission %!!! ;) :p :D

seriously though, i hope you are well compensated for all that hard work.

I won't ever have to deal with that at my dealership (yes, I got the job :D ) ... Cadillac doesn't really sell too many fleet vehicles :) oh oh ... we both work for GM hehe :o

btw, aerodynamics alone will not get you great mileage, only helps on the highway some. Look at the xB, mid 30s highway and it is a box ... the Fit is more aerodynamic and it gets about the same (what a disappointment).

I don't see why police cruisers cannot be hybrids now. With helicopters, there is no need for anything more than efficiency on the roads. Most people are not going to try to outrun the lights, and the ones that will, do it regardless of the cruiser vehicle. I would love to see Priii, HCHs, FEHs, etc as all city vehicles (within reason), hey, even the big electric vehicles could use the electric motors used on bus systems for the majority of the time with the combustion engine as back up ;) Could you imagine if every municipality used this train of thought how many fewer barrels of oil our country would need to run every day? The positive effect it would have on our economy and national security?

Then again, I have always been told to quit being an idealist, it is unrealistic.

Shaun,

Some reply's here.

1st I'm {NOT-in Sales}. I'm in Administration. So No-Commission.

2nd, I'm a Salaried Employee like Managers and Staff so they don't pay me for the time it takes to do my Job. However long it takes, makes know difference to them at all. Like the 16.5 Hrs. I worked one day. It's Free to them.

The vehicles are not sold at a Loss they are sold right above our cost so there is Bare Minimum Profit per vehicle. But you do have in this case like 250 of them times that very small profit.

Terry
