Hey everyone! The Prius-2 I am buying soon looks to have the OEM Goodyear Integrity's on it. The wear bars are showing at 66k mi, so I'm investigating some replacements.

The OEMs are a bit expensive to me at $80 or so a pop, when tires I've used in the past, such as the Falken Ziex ZE-912 are available for around $50 each. $120 less for a grippier tire might make it worth the small mpg penalty?

They will be "properly" inflated, of course. ;)

What tires have people around here used on their Prii?

Go to http://www.tirerack.com and click on tires, then plug in your size, then up will come all that are that size...to narrow your search, click on sort by price spot on upper right and then all will come up in order of lowest to most $$$.

You can get a Kumho Power Star 758 for $48 ea and a tread wear rating of 400 compared to the Goodyear Integrity at $67 and a 460 tread wear.

In theory a tread wear # of 600 should last twice as long as a 300...or 4 times that of a 150.

Youi can also get a Pirelli P4 Four Seasons for $62 that has an amazing 760 tread wear!!!

HINT....print out the information on the tires you want and take it to a local Discount Tire. They will match the price on the exact same set and beat it by $10. They will also try to offer you something they carry if they do not carry that tire.....but....like in the case of Sumitomo tires (that they do not carry)....they get them from Tire Rack themselves and just loose that $10 to get you as a customer.

The Integity's may be expensive but you have to consider the the better fuel mileage they will deliver.

It's not unheard of to get a set of take-offs from a private party or even a dealer with next to no miles on them for very small money.

Hi Ben:

___Follow Larry's and Tim's advice. Messing up a Prius w/ cheap tires (the Integrity's are already pretty cheap) is a possible mistake in the making. They are not known for their traction but they do have reasonably low RRc’s.

___Good Luck

Hi All,

If your looking for tires that are good in damp conditions, like Tennesee in general, and very grippy in city grimie road conditions, where you never know what the other person will do, its kinda hard to beat Michelin Hydroedges. They are poor the first few thousand in FE, but as the edges wear down, they do just fine. That is what I have on my car, and on my previous Saturn SL2. They have remarkable wet inline and side load traction. In a damp metro area driving enviorment, they are hard to beat. Even with the edge dulled, a little load put on them brings them out to bear on the pavement.

Allot of people on Prius Chat like the Nokian tires. These are available as winter and mixed conditions tires. They are not off-the-shelf however, around the country. Where the Michelin's are.

Mine came with Treva touring tires.

Not sure about the quality etc.......I'm sure they put the cheapest tires on they could find.
