First, I would like to say that I am French speaking, so my English is so so, please bear with me.

I am pretty new to this Hypermiling stuff. I own 2 Hondas a 2006 CRV and a 2008 Civic LX. I share either with my wife and she does not Hypermile, so it is pretty difficult to really know how I am doing...

I started Hypermiling 3 weeks ago and I am doing better everyday thanks to you guys.

My CRV is lease and I will be able to return it in about 18 months. I am considering a Prius for my next car.

Can you comment on Hybrids in winter, here in Quebec from mid-December to the end of March we get 10 to 20C below Zero.

What kind of performance can I expect from a Prius.

There are quite a few hybrid owners in Canada. Block your grill and get an engine block heater and snow tires (tyres) and you'll do just fine.

Hi Marc;

As Michael said, there are quite a few of us who own hybrids in the cold white north. From my own experience the cars behave quite well and will always provide fuel economy benefits over any other car - even when they are getting hit by the cold weather. Of course, because it is a hybrid you can "see" the cold weather hit on your fuel economy every single day and depending on your driving distances that may be very depressing for first time owners.

With this said, there are a few things we can do to help soften the cold weather hit. Blocking the front grille and using the block heater regularly is a MUST. Another absolute MUST is a good set of winter tires as the traction control on the Prius manages to surprise some of us in the least opportune of times.

In any case, the Prius is an awesome car well worthy of your consideration.

Cheers;

MSantos
