Well I'm doing my first oil change on my 07 FEH. The Dealer has done it before but since my free changes are no gone I figure I'd do this myself since I've done oil changes on my other vehicles. Well all is good, I find the right wrench/socket size for the pan plug-13mm, the right star driver-40T for the filter nut, but I am at a loss as to what size filter wrench to use to get the black filter housing off. Any help? I tried to twist it off but it is on there tight, thanks dealership. Any help with getting that housing/case cover off? I'm in the middle of the oil change now and hate to button the car up without having to change the filter.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I copied this post from the greenhybrid.com ford escape forum.

"The oil filter wrench for a 2008 MMH/FEH can be purchased at AutoZone.
It is their OEM Oil Filter "B" Cap Wrench, (25401) for $3.99.
It is heat treated metal and fits mine perfect."

I believe that the 08 and 07 filters are the same.

Well I figured it out. The filter cap takes a 76mm 14 flute cap wrench. You can probably find one at any auto store. I got mine at Murray's after two trips. I don't see why there is a screw in the filter housing and as far as I can tell serves no purpose other then to drain a little oil prior to removing the housing. Doesn't seem to drain enough to make it worth it to remove. But I changed both the large and small o-rings. Put Mobil syn 0-20 in. The book called for 4.5 qts of oil for the 07 FEH. I checked after I filled it with 4 qts and it was past the "max" mark. I'll check it after few trips to see if I need to add any or if it stays at that level. I also coated both o-rings with clean oil.

The brand of cap filter wrench I purchased was called Ritefit, #A251. On the back it says it fits oil filter housings on Mazda 3 & 6 and Ford Fusion. It will also fit AC, Bosch, Purolator, STP and other aftermarket filters.

It comes in a 3/8 drive and actually made the job easy. I was surprised to find that the filter location just past the radiator in the center of the car was easy to get at, as was the oil drain plug just further back. And let me tell you, if I think it is easy to get at, then it is, since I have a variety of vehicles and each presents its own problem for accessibility. Ford for once was thinking and didn't bury it like other manufacturers.

My thoughts and experiences in changing the FEH oil and filter, your experience may vary. Please don't try this at home, use your garage.

I got mine before you posted. The cost at Murray's was $3.59. There is not an Auto Zone close by so I'm stuck with Murray's Walmart is too far away. Thanks for the info though.
