Hi PDW:

___Enjoy the trip! If you come up I-94 into WI (I suspect you will), just as you go by Six Flags in Gurnee, look to the west and wave my way as some of the roofs in my subdivision are just visible over the big berm :)

___Good Luck with the trip and we will see you Saturday!

Thanks Wayne, I'll be departing shortly .... slight adjustment in plans being that Hybridfest will be first.

The winds are opposing the westerly flow at the south end of a high pressure system over the route starting anytime now ... not as much as they were showing they would earlier today. There's a digging trough (low pressure) in the midwest helping along ... we'll see the outcome while enroute.

ADDS aviation digital data service .... click winds/temps .... scroll times in UTC (subtract 4hours central). It shows a honking tailwind for FASing back East on Sunday night.

went by your place on the 94

only went to westbend (made it with one tank 11 US ... )

presently preparing to coast home with a honkin tailwind (inside-the-eye/on-the-edge of the Gustav remnants) to Niagara Falls from Waukegan later tonight (Thurs Sept 4 2008)

Hi Pete:

___You are in Waukegan? I am just down the road. PM me and maybe I can see you off! The rain is going to kill your FE but it is supposed to clear up tomorrow?

___Good Luck

I wish I had found this site a year ago when I went to visit my sister who lives in Waukegan...

Hi Wayne ... I was asking my relative if she knows where that is (six flags) ... said yes ... so i'll look in to making a special trip in the near future ... Peter

Grays lake is just a couple of miles southwest of Waukegan. Did an overnight trip to Springfield from there (that's where I posted from) ... got to drive a 2004 Buick Century.

Finally left this morning (again in my latest 5-speed/restored Saturn) at 2:47am (Waukegan time) for home ... put in $20 (on a run-dry tank plus about $2) to get to Kalamazoo ... another $10 to AnnArbor .... the last $8.40 US money to London Ont ... and then another $11.50 Canadian to get back home to Niagara on the Lake (10 miles north of Niagara Falls) and ran out again right into the farm driveway a mile from my house ... all honkin tailwind/no-rain the whole way home ... caught up to rain just entering the Niagara on the Lake area.

I just need to check how far Waukegan is from the Falls area ... and then add about 12 miles for the detour in London and another 8 miles for the Kalamazoo stop. Miscellaneous detours maybe another 10.

It's important to evade the traffic and leave early throuigh Chicago .... I just got home at 8 oclock this evening (sept 5 2008) ... in 4 days ... lots of driving ...

Thanks again Wayne,

I didn't get your response til the next morning after I arrived home.

I'd gotten up at 2:47am Waukegan time to get an early start .... cruised East on the 94 right out to Kalamazoo for breakfast at 7am(ET). There I had to wait for the trough of Gustav to catch up to I could ride the southwest corner of the LO all the way back to the falls. That means strong oncoming wind reductions (or tailwind ... see weather history wundergrounf for verification) ... also, found out later that I got out of the Chicago area just ahead of an accident.

Picked hops with my cousin who is a beermaker there in Kalamazoo... then departed eastbound from that city at 10am.

I'll be "hypermiling" through Wisconsin again (very soon) to Alberta ... and have already been studying the 4-day projected surface-wind patterns/strengths on 'ADDS aviation' to enable the best FE (lower drag) in a shorter trip-time.

thanks (regret missing the chance to stop/meet simply for lack of handy email/internet)

Peter
