For the 4th my girlfriend and I drove up to Louisville from Bowling Green (~107miles). Just a little road trip. I was itching to get out on the interstate to try some more HM techniques! I told my GF that with the traffic for the 4th I would be going fairly slow, and she was fine with it. So I put the tires up to 50psi on the RSX and we set off.

I got 42 MPG on the way up to Louisville. Better than my last attempt of 38 MPG. I was using P&G, RR, and a distance draft on a semi governed to 60 MPH. But it was raining on Friday when we drove up, so the A/C was on, and the wet road I’m sure was hurting my FE.

Then on the way back to BG it was a nice sunny day. I used the same techniques and again found a couple of semi’s going 60 MPH, I also added some FAS on longer glides. On the pulses and DWL up hills I cycled the A/C. Again remember this is with two people, and all our stuff. And the results were!

46.7 MPG Wow!! 173% combined EPA! :Banane25: I would never thought I could see mid to upper 40’s out of this car. You can see all the SG ”current” shots here: http://jjhack.dyndns.org:8069/gallery/hm_4th_2008

And for the entire 4th weekend this was the trip counter and gas left:

Over the weekend I had an average of 42 MPG. I’m looking good for a 450, or if I’m lucky a 500+ mile tank!

Did anyone else have any good HM trips this weekend?

I got my first 500+mile tank this past weekend driving to a wedding in Tarpon Springs, then to St. Petersburg to stay with the inlaws. My friend and I went. I actually made it there and back with gas to spare (filled up today with 2.2 gal left in the tank). I actually found out that my SGii was underestimating my FE. The Tank FE stated 35.6 when I got back into town and 35.3 today when I filled up, 20 or so miles later. My calculated mileage was 40.4 mpg! So two records broken this weekend! :bananalama: And to think I'd never get the numbers others were getting.

Mostly did P&Gs with a range of about 63-55mph (speed limit 65), slower passing through towns (40-33). I also cycled the A/C and DWL on the "hills" of north FL. We caught a semi for a short while at about 6-8 car lengths (man, what a boost!) but i lost him/her as they accelerated to about 70. It added about an extra 40-45 min to my trip (used to go 70-75).

It's still kinda stinky knowing you're driving a car with an engine that is wayyy to big for it, and it's not paid off yet. Welp, just doing the best I can with what I've got!

My wife, my 1 yr. old son, and I traveled from Philly to Wilmington N.C. for the week. On the way down I tried to keep to HMing. The first half of the trip was spent driving about 52 MPH mostly on CC and NICE-on coasting. We were also using A/C :-(. We drove about 200 miles on 1/4 tank! After a while my son got really fussy so I had to speed it up to about 60. I did some drafting and NICE-on coasting and some P+G towards the end. Ended up driving about 500 miles on 3/4 tank, so that was nice, but coulda done better. On the way home it was raining HARD so I drove slow and did a LOT of P+G (50-60mph)...very effective.

Got about 42MPG on the way down and almost 45MPG on the way home. Gas cost me a little less that $100 for the trip of about 1000 miles, nice, huh?
