Not sure whether you’ve noticed, but petrol’s getting expensive these days: £1.20 a litre. Ouch. By the end of the year, your house will be worth less than a full tank. What are we doing about it? Not much. Not unless you count a few truckers driving slowly down the M4.

What are the Yanks doing about it? Plenty. Even though gas costs just 54p a litre over there, that’s too much for our go-get-’em cousins. You see, Americans’ legs can no longer take the weight of their bodies. There’s been a Five documentary about it. I agree about the humor. Good article with a sense of humor. Also recognises that hypermilers are a little nuts which amuses me. Why always with the drafting myths though?!:mad:

Don't they have stop signs in England anymore? He didn't mention coasting through stop signs, like the AAA says hypermilers do.

Good article. I don't think he was kidding about the wife either. It was amazing to hear the price difference for a liter of gas, and to hear that we were at only half of what it costs over there. Starting to feel lucky.

I love watching Top Gear so I'm no stranger to Jeremy's rants and his back handed complements. Gotta love the British for that.

I, too, like the British humor, and that was a good article.

However, Mr. Rudd forgot a few things that we use our cars for, like: breakfast, lunch, and dinner, going to the bank to check on our money, going to the drive-through clerk of the court to pay for the ridge running and driving to slow tickets, and going to the drive-through STD lab. And, as of July 1 in CA, we have a new law that says you are not allowed to use your cellphone except in your car and except while traveling at least 30 MPH, haha.

The mention of high gas prices reminded me of a political cartoon I saw in, I think, New Yorker Magazine in the 1970's. It showed and Arab-looking guy leaning on a gas pump and holding the dispensing hose in his hand. An American in a big old Lyndon Johnson style Cadillac has just pulled up to the pump. On top of the pump was a sign that said "We Accept Second Trust Deeds". Enough about prices.
