Hello everyone, Austinite with an '05 Pontiac Grand Prix here...the 5.3L, V8 variety...:(

Haha. I love my car, but jeez...city driving is about 18-19, highway is about 22 (this is with all the hypermiling techniques I figured out on my own in place). Hopefully I can learn a few new tricks here and maybe even get to modding my car a bit.

Hello and welcome to the club.

You should start by knowing your car’s EPA rating located at FuelEconomy.gov (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm) and make sure to read the article “Beating the EPA” (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510).

Make sure you air your tires up to the maximum pressure indicated on the tire’s sidewall.

Also, consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103426). It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.

However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive. :)

Wow, that's a tough one. I bet it's a great highway cruiser if you keep the speeds down, though. Try to keep the rpm low. Chevy did it right with those automatics and the low rpm they allow, but you have to keep a very gentle foot on it.

Avoid braking at all costs. Anticipate way ahead and leave yourself room to react without braking.

EPA estimate is 16 city, 25 highway. I have a built in real-time fuel consumption gauge which drastically helped me out in figuring out techniques such as looking ahead before braking, rabbit-tripping, drafting, slowing uphill and speeding downhill to take advantage of gravity, and much more. Eventually, I realized that there were probably way more techniques I hadn't even thought of online somewhere, and so now here I am.
