I really thought that this tank would be 60+. Nope :( Only 59.1. Meh.

You could always do some aero mods to your car to improve the mileage. Even on the low Cd hybrids, there is a lot of room for improvements over the OEM configuration.

I know how you feel. I had big dreams for this tank, too, but I'm only barely keeping up with my last.

Installing a belly pan is an extremely tempting thought considering what it would do for all those highway miles.

Sledge & brick:
What is your most problematic issues?
Heavy traffic, rain, winds?

Brick:
Too bad you're so far away from me, our old washing machine crapped out and we bought a new one. Lots -a- heavy gauge side steel panels I would have gladly donated for your underbelly........

i feel your pain, too. i filled tonight and it was 59. i think i lost 60 today on the highway, with a huge head wind and a long uphill stretch that i usually don't drive.

however, i again pulled 70 in the 9.5 mile drive home from the gas station :)

hey, tbaleno, we are tied in the mileage listings :)

Yeah, but yours includes winter driving mine is only summer ;) I haven't added the tanks since before the database existed.

oh. you mean i could have left off the stuff i carried over from GH? let's see, where would that put me.......wowzer, right behind hot georgia!

i would love to have an insight, even for just a week.......that drive home from the gas station is just set up for that 120MPG prize...

chuck, can i use yours for a while?

You might try running the tank longer. I find with my Insight that the mileage becomes more stable (harder to knock down) and actually increases close to the bottom of the tank. Good luck....Louis

you think you have problems? I'm having a hard time trying to break the 45 mpg figure...

at least it used to be 35~

Over the weekend it was the rain, and now it's the wind. Traffic is irritating (more aggressive drivers) but I can blame only a tiny portion of the "dent" on them, if anything at all. (As of right now I'm exactly on pace for another 41mpg tank so we'll see how it goes...I still have some time to push it.)

Ahh, the washing machine panels would have been great stuff for the belly pan. Maybe a little heavy but certainly effective. What I might do instead is try to source some of that fire retardant coroplast. I'm afraid to put straight plastic under the car (although it certainly worked for Dan), but I would want something that's easy to work with and as light as possible.

None of the above. The trip computer was reading 58.1 when I pulled into the gas station. From my spreadsheet, I know that the gauge is low by about 2 MPG when it reads in the upper 50's. I should've at least gotten something like 59.9. Meh.

In my case, I made sure that there was at least 1 inch distance between the coroplast and the exhaust. I just removed the coroplast over the weekend because I am selling the Del Sol. I noticed no indication of melting. It will be a direct fit for the VX except I will need an extension to cover the extra lenngth of the VX.

I guess you won't mind the possible cat scent in the Insight. :D (although it's been quite awhile since they have taken a ride - and happy about that)

A couple of years ago, a co-worker claimed my car had a persistent odor. :o He said it was still there after spending $150 to clean and wash it. Opps, I am not giving a background first....this guy was a bit odd. Anyway, we will see what people at HybridFest think....

chuck, i live with critters, remember? cat scent? no problem.....goose? chicken? goat?.....no problem. however, if there's been a smoker in there, that's where i would have to draw the line (no offense intended to anyone......)

I don't smoke, but maybe it's also the smelly gym towels that turn some noses....

I thought my current tank would top out in the 50's until I had to drive some clients around in the heat and humidity last week.....had to leave the AC on all the time. Then the guy's wife wanted to wait in the car with the AC on while idling.....kiss of mpg death...dropped into the 30's. Luckily its back up to 49.5 (won't budge) but its still raining here in NE with strong SW winds over 25mph...so 50's may be out of the question for now.
We've had over 25" of rain here in the last 8 weeks...sheeeesh...should have an mpg meter on the lawn mower..;)

sheesh.......i am groaning here because i had my windows tinted today and probably have to use the air on the way home......he told me they had to let it run in the shop for about ten minutes to check the climate system, i almost cried LOLOL.....

i always give a rather nasty look to people who either leave their car running while they run into the store, or have someone in it with the air on while the other one runs into the store, etc.......and they are the ones who will complain about the cost of gas......

Idling a car for more than a minute (in most circumstances) seems criminal to me. There are certain exceptions, but it is such a waste of gasoline and such a pollution producer.
