I have been hypermiling my vette for the last couple months. It is a 2002 Corvette with 42,000 miles. It is an automatic and has medium sized spoiler on the back. My daily drive is a 60 mile round trip from a suburb to a downtown area. It is about 50/50 highway and city.

I have been able to get 33.5 mpg during this commute which involves many stop lights and medium traffic. I shift into neutral down hills with the occasional engine off, try to keep momentum with timing braking at lights, high speed corners in neutral when clear of others, drive in my socks for finer control, draft semis on the highway, and turn the car off at stop lights(timing the lights with turning the car on actually gets my adrenaline pumping). I am also very easy on the gas.

Before I hypermiled i would get 27-29 mpg on the highway and around 18 in the city. My daily commute would be in the low 20's sometimes teens. The engine is very efficient for its size and specs, granted it requires premium. However on the weekends it gets about 13 :). I plan on posting some videos on youtube of my commute and mpg. While I am very pleased with the 33.5mpg. I feel that I could still squeeze a couple more mpg when I perfect my technique.

With an automatic, you probably don't want to turn off the engine while the car is moving, even if it's in neutral.

Kind of amazing. Here's a smaller engine (compared to some corvettes of the past) with higher horsepower and much higher mpg rating.

Hi and Welcome!
WOW, somebody else with a C5! I have a '99 coupe M6. You are doing great, I don't really try too hard to hypermile mine, I just do my best to leave it in the garage ;)
One BIG idea for ya... just because it says to use Premium, it does NOT need it. I know, mine runs cheap regular most of the year. During the really hot times of summer, it does need mid-grade, but never premiium ever again. I have a spreadsheet of every gallon I ever put in it (now at 105K miles) and it gets better mpg on regular!

vettes are known for getting good HWY mileage...same with the LS1 f-body

it's cool to see V8's pulling good numbers...33.5mpg is getting up there! good luck with getting it up a few more MPGs
