Just wanted to express my delight at this forum and website.

Little did I know several months ago that there was a name for my addiction to trying to save gas. I was driving a 95 Chevy Silverado and getting about 14 MPG. I started shutting the engine off, coasting and doing all I could to time lights thereby saving gas. I started getting 17MPG and was laughed at by my extended family for being cheap when I told them what I was doing. (Several people tried to convince me that it cost more to restart an engine than to just leave it on) Then my brother pointed out the article by Wayne on hypermilling in Readers Digest.

It's good to know I'm not alone out there. Now even some of the extended family naysayers are following some of Waynes tips. I wish I had found this webpage years ago.

Thanks again , I am anxious to learn more. ,

Lane Fontaine

Welcome aboard. You're not alone in being laughed at. I tried to offer tips to my co-workers to save gas when they complain about the price of gas but they laugh and said they aren't going to change. One co-worker drives a Dodge 1500 hemi V8 two miles to come to work and averages 10 mpg. I pointed out he could simply ride a bicycle to work but he said he enjoys his truck (complete with Daytona package and a big wing in the back). He cuts grass as a side job and he won't ride a bicycle to and from work. Oh well, if the pain at the pump gets them enough they'll stop laughing. I've only recently started and I'm saving 5mpg from my car's original EPA rating (they changed the rating in 2007)

Thanks for the kind words of welcome. No one even said anything about my misspelled title. This must be a good bunch of folks!
