Yeah, it's here :) A new toy. I sat right down and I read the manual, and am quite blown away (and overwhelmed) by what it can do... half of which I am not even sure what to do with :o. So I am looking for suggestions...

First of all, even though I have half a tank left, should I go right out and fill, or should I wait until I am closer to to needing it? Thinking I will go fill up anyway so I can start getting some valuable info right away :) (although it looks like you have to get through a tank to calibrate it or make sure it is accurate.)

Aside from that, how do YOU use it? Meaning, what information do y ou find you use it for the most that is the most valuable to "watch" in real time? Basically, what 4 guages do you keep on "top" level to show you on a regular basis?

What other functions have you found the most valuable to look at on ocassion to?

Silly questions I am sure :)

OK... well, I went and filled up (I was doing 55 MPG on that tank! - figureing the old fashioned way)

Well, I followed the directions, and didn't correct the fill amount when I filled. It was a little over 6 gallons. The SGII said I only put in .1 gallons! Is that normal for the first fill? Also, will any of the readings be accurate? Or do I have to wait for the first tank to be finished and the second tank when I make corrections?

And one final question... there is no manual for my car. Do I have to change any of the settings for engine size, or can the scan guage figure all that out on its own? (05 Civic, if it matters)

NICE! They never gave me one... for some reason it wasn't there when I bought the car!

Eh, the previous owner lost it or something.
Dunno if that's the correct manual. I just googled '2005 honda civic owners manual'; that's the first one that popped out.
Look at 'capacities' under 'specifications' for the size of your tank.
Good luck with the SG, and please keep us posted.

It looks like the right manual... at least eveything looks like my car in there :)

and at the risk of looking really stupid... am I looking at the capacity for "engine oil?" The SGII is set for 3.0 l... which isn't too off if that is the case... :o I am kind of ignorant on this, sorry.

Sad thing is I bought this car new... the dealership couldn't find it and was supposed to give me a new one, but they never did, and I didn't follow up :(

"Capacities" is where I figured they would list your fuel tank capacity. That's what you're needing to tell the scangauge, right?
I am kind of ignorant on this, sorry.
Me too. :o Never saw a Honda owner's manual or a scan gauge...

Your Corolla is 1.8L... I am trying to figure out what my Honda Civic is. For some reason 1.7 or something like that sticks in my head, but I have no idea what it actually is. I think that is what it is refering too in the SG settings... not gas tank, I am pretty sure. And for some reason I can't seem to find that out anywhere... having some sort of brain spasm over it LOL

doing the same thing today. Engine is the size or displacement in liters. 2005 Civic should be 1.7 liters. Gas tank is 13.2 gallons

Cool. I knew that number stuck in my head for some reason!

Kaya:

go to https://www.ahm-ownerlink.com/login.asp?brand=honda and register. Al you need is the VIN and it'll have the electronic owner's manual for your car, model-specific parts, and a bunch of other junk. Its the Honda "Owner's Resource" dump called "Owner's link".

give it a try.

kayasbluetaco, for the ScanGauge to do its best for you, it needs to know the size of the gas tank (in full gallons - or full liters if you select Metric measures), and the size of your engine.

To be certain of your engine size (since you did not get the manual that should have come with your new car), you should find that information on a placard under your hood, either on the inside of the hood, on the frame near the radiator, or perhaps some raised letters on the engine itself.

I'd call the salesperson who sold you the car, and remind them of their oversight, and request that they keep their promise to you.

You also want to tell the ScanGauge Setup that your fuel type is "Hybrid." I know you don't have a Hybrid, but if you tell the Setup that you do, the gauge will stay active when you FAS (otherwise it will turn off when you FAS).

You are correct that on the first fill-up with your new gauge, you should only select "Done," and not attempt to make any corrections. Re-read this section of your ScanGauge manual to be sure you do it right. If you don't, the worst that can happen is that you do it right the next time. If you goof it the first time, it may take a few tanks to settle out.

Not sure what information you want to display, but I like TPS, MPG, and I've got an X-gauge reading for current MPG (or instantaneous MPG). I've used LOD and GPH. All are good tools for instant feedback on your driving style. Like anything, it is a learning process, but it sure is helpful to get that data and be able to adjust what you are doing in real time.

Great idea. I did it by "more, setup, fuel, type, hybrid?"

It worked great.

Thanks,

Excellent, will switch to hybrid mode. I was wondering about that anyway... how to keep it from turning off during fas, but I forgot to ask about that :)

Now I have to go somewhere so I can play with it more :D

"Now have to go somewhere so I can play with it more "

Sometimes I wonder if I'm really saving gas. I go out to try things a lot. But it's cheaper entertainment than a movie, I guess.

Anyway, today it's off to the mountains on 2 wheels. :)

BTW... I <3 Colorado... one of my favorite place on earth... Haven't been there in 5 years... I need a Rocky Mountain High! :D

Start by calibrating the speed(distance) against your car's odometer, so that for any trip the distance on the car and the SG they are exactly the same. This will get your speed calibrated.

Then calibrate the trip consumption against your iFCD, if you have one.

Be sure to set the fuel-cut feature. Search this site for more info.

New Scangauge owner here!

According to the manual, the MPG setting is instantaneous (past 2 seconds). I thought the Xgauge is for the trip MPG (page 28)?

You are correct, Mike. It is very helpful to have both displayed at the same time.

Ok, just wanted to make sure I read correctly.
I'll set up the trip gauge. I suppose I should fill the tank first. Though I know it won't be very accurate until I fill it again and do the adjustment.
