Hi all! I thought I'd join the community to get some tips or suggestions on increasing my MPG, and post some stats on a somewhat unconventional "hypermiling" vehicle. I've been kind of going at the whole thing as a competition with myself to see if I can get higher than I have before, and so far on my way home the best I've gotten is 43.1 mpg. I'm not sure exactly what the "combined EPA estimate" means, but I think my estimate for highway is 27, city 18. My drive home is 24.8 miles, through a few towns, with about 15 stoplights and speed limits ranging from 25-55...my new goal is to try to get 45 mpg, but I sure was milking it for 43! Turning my car off while coasting, slowing down up hills a little, anticipating lights etc...anyhoo, glad to be able to join a group of people saving money and pollution!

Hello and welcome to the club.

You should start by knowing your car’s EPA rating located at FuelEconomy.gov (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm) and make sure to read the article “Beating the EPA” (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510).

Make sure you air your tires up to the maximum pressure indicated on the tire’s sidewall.

Also, consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103426). It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.

However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive. :)
