View Full Version : A tank I'm proud of...

This tank started with about 130 miles of Freeway driving at around 47mpg on the display. The previous tank had been entirely freeway and showed ~46mpg at fill up (calculated to 43:( ).

Anyway, I've been about to drive my usual commutes...kids to day-care, wrestling, Taekwondo, and my 14 mile each way commute to work. I've driven carefully, but not outside my usual technique for the most part.

As reward I've seen the mileage gradually climb.

The last bar started flashing about 10 miles ago so I'll probably fill up tonight or tomorrow. The display is up to 59.3mpg @ ~530miles.:D I've toyed with trying to push to 600 miles, but that's always risky for the hours I'll be driving (don't get off work until midnight tonight). OTOH, I have CAN-View to show the tank level in % so I could watch that and just fill at some reasonable level like 5% or so. I'll le you know what I decide ultimately.

Anyway, it's always discouraging to get a tank below the lifetime average and two in a row might necessitate a therapist! So this was rewarding knowing I probably averaged in the mid 60s after the atrocious first 130 miles.

Hi Evan:

___Anyone that can nail anywhere near a 60 mpg tank in the Prius II has my respect! Nice job to pull her out of the basement like that given the short trips and such early on in the tank.

___MO. is currently hotter then blazes right now from what I saw watching weather last night. Thank god for that midnights drive so as to not take the A/C hit if you can possibly stand it? Can you forgo A/C that late in the evening/night to help those segments coming home or is it mandatory 24 hours a day down there now?

___Thanks for sharing the details of that excellent tank. I can’t wait to hear how you do when it cools down a bit ;)

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Hello Evan,

Just had time this late evening to read your Post on FE. I am getting at the present time 42 MPG with my HCH II driving it 6.1 Miles to the Work Place and back each day with A/C on.

So I think you are doing just GREAT with the Prius. :D

Evan that 60MPG tank sure makes you feel good about your car (and its driver too)! ;)

Terry that 6 miles is really tough.
Would you be interested in a plug-in HEV or EV if they become available?
I'd sure consider one for my own family for those neccessary shorter trips.
As long as they don't cost too much and have a good warranty.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've got around 10 tanks that finished at the 60 mark in the ~45k miles I've been driving her.

I filled up today...wanted to push for a 600 mile tank, but just chickened out with a trip to the ball game and back with the kids ahead of me.

Finally filled up at 581 miles, tank took 9.069 gallons topping off 2 clicks (and my CAN-View showed a 100% tank level...highest I'd seen before was 97%, so I'm sure I at least filled up). Final tally...

64.1MPG!!!! (MFD showed 59.6)

I'm very pleased with myself. I do use the AC, esp. when my family is with me, but also in solo driving. I use it in limited amounts, but find it aids in keeping the battery temp down.

Evan,

Sounds like from this Post that you are well pleased with the Prius II and to me that is what is most important. If you are Happy :) and you are from the sounds of it, then I am Happy for You. :D

Good Show and many more Happy high FE miles ahead for you. ;)

Terry,
I take it you haven't frequented the PriusChat forums. Yea, I'm darn happy with the PriusII. One great car that after 45k miles I still find myself grinning like a fool as I drive it.

Evan,

I use to go there frequently but then I went and purchased the HCH II and there was not really any reason to keep going back. However the Sis-In-Law has a new Prius II. She is loving it and gets great FE compared to their Van they traded in. She is a Family Practice M.D. So she was not into vehicles and I suggested that she take a look and test drive the Prius II before making a decision on a New Vehicle. She did test drive one and took it home. :D

I like the Prius and personally look forward to the upcoming New Prius with the new Battery Pack that is going to give it extra driving capability in the city on the IMA.

Terry
