I'm spending two weeks up here in Philly with my mother, who's recently bought a house. I'm on the outside, repainting several columns and a nearly-ruined banister when the neighbor next door, a 40-something guy goes to his vehicle, cranks the starter, goes back in his house, but leaves the car on. To add insult to injury he leaves the headlights on (DRL's perhaps? Don't think so, they were pretty bright even in the afternoon).
That car was still idling after I was done for the day over three hours later. Warming up the car? I think not.
Got stories of your own? Send us your pictures and stories and we'll feature them on Jerk of the Day!
Zukiru 05-27-2008, 02:03 AM what was he thinking??? Jackass... there should be allowances for shooting ****tards like this..
bestmapman 05-27-2008, 07:11 AM Maybe he locked the keys in his car.
HemiSync 05-27-2008, 08:26 AM Maybe he was drunk from all the Memorial day celebrating and went back inside & passed out, so maybe a good thing. lol That poor engine had to be hotter than a pistol after 3 hours & it was pretty warm in PA yesterday.
roadrunner 05-28-2008, 06:08 AM Is your mother's home close to the Glenside Railroad station?
Idling like that should be against the law. I would not have been able to paint, if the SUV was running near me.
FocusGuy77 05-28-2008, 06:45 AM I was doing my morning paper route a couple of weeks ago when a woman approached me outside her home and asked me for a ride a few miles down the road. Apparently she let her Elantra idle in the driveway when she went to bed that night!! and it burned up that 1/4 tank and stalled (of course)! She had had some battery trouble the day before and thought she should let it idle to charge for a little while when she got home...then forgot about the pollution factory that she left running.
Next time I notice an "abandoned" car idling for more than 10 min, I'm going to think about lamebum's guy and this lady, then go knock on a door to remind the owner or just go turn it off myself! Unless they come out right then, they'll never know who reached into their car...

Saturn has anticipated people who would do this sort of thing and equipped the Vue with a 19 gallon gas tank. With the gas mileage of a Vue, this allows for a 500+ mile range.

It's right across from it, barely 200 yards from the station. It probably still has the tarp on the front column because I got sick of doing so much work. :D

LOL!
I just had to laugh. How could you leave your car on all night like that and not remember (if you aren't drunk?)
Jaral 05-28-2008, 11:44 PM Hehehe...thats just so dumb. If you really want to waste fuel you could just siphon it onto the pavement and light it. At least that way you get some fun and fireworks out of the deal! Plus, less wear and tear on your engine unless the gas puddle was underneath the car...
Hi Auston:
___This was just plain sad to see and how could someone do that to all of us let alone himself :ccry:
___Good Luck

Bucko 05-29-2008, 07:00 AM Could have bought a charger for less than the cost of the fuel to charge the battery.
NJUser 06-06-2008, 07:26 AM In NJ, He would've been ticketed. We have a no idle law here. You should have messed with him and parked his truck around the corner or across the street. LOL

In South Fulton Co, GA, it now is. There were several incidents of unattended cars while idling being stolen during the winter. A large fine was created. :Banane27:
