This is a story about the Kaiser Permenente - Bart Shuttle. For those who do not know Kaiser Permenente is the local HMO that runs several hospitals in our area. Bart is Bay Area Rapid Transit. You know, public transportation. K-P runs a shuuttle bus to the nearest Bart stop so the health worker can use public transportation. A noble endeavor indeed.
My wife has an occasion to be at Lake Merritt most of last week and observe the shuttle "in action". Her location was the Bart end of the line. She observed the driver of the shuttle would often sit for 20 minutes with the engine running while waiting for the next train.
After seeing what was going on, she decided to take "action". She walks over to the shuttle bus and taps on driver's window.
Wife: Do you realize you have your engine running?
Driver: Uh, yes.
Wife: Do you realize that gas is $4.00 a gallon? (pause) And that is our air you are polluting?
Driver shuts off engine.
You go girl!
