Need Help With Scanguage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So a friend borrowed it, wanting to see how thirsty his Nissan Titan was.

I got it back and I don't quite get the readings I should. I mean I'm pretty decent now with my hypermiling skills, but I shouldn't be anywhere near 300 + constant mpgs while gassing it at 70 mph. The GPH doesn't even break .04 when I throttle it. TPS still reads the same.

I did the usual set up and stuff. Two things I don't get about the set up. The menu that includes CANSF...and others like that acronym...what is that? And another is the fill up menu... what is that Gallons and percentage mean, how do I deal with it?

Thanks,

Fumes

I think the acronyms you are referring to are the programming languages that vehicle computers use. I usually just set mine to the auto setting.

The fill up menu is for fine tuning the tank mpg calculations. When you fill up, you use that menu so that the gallons on that screen match the gallons pumped on the gas pump. I hope that helps.

As for the odd mpg readings, I would say to double check the engine size setting.

Thanks Larry, I'll do that before I head home from work and check back in when I am home (which is about 9 or 10 hrs from now, lol).

So Larry, how would I get that gallons menu to say zero percentage? Before I lent it out, I never really messed with the percentages and the numbers were correct. I actually tried tinkering with it to see if that would help, but it did not. As the set up, I've double checked everything over and over. The engine size has been 1.5 liters each time.. down from 5.7 with the friend's titan.

Thanks again.

To get to 0%, go to the fill up screen and push save. Then go back to the screen and use the up or down arrows to move the number to 0% then push save again. When pushing save it will reset the data for that tank so you may want to wait for the next fill up to do that or just do a short fill to top off and start fresh.

Have you checked to see if the speed percentage has changed? That could affect the mpg reading as well. to do that, go into setup and select speed. You'll see a screen similar to the fill up screen that will allow you to calibrate the SG speed readout to your car's speedometer. You can also use this feature to correct for a speedometer that is off because of different tire sizes etc. Good luck.

Thanks again. Your new advice definitly requires me to be in the car, so I will be back in the morning to post those results.

I think there is a way to completely reset the SG to factory settings.

If you push the home button then select the "more" button several times, you will come to "use defaults."

Ahh...I was just about to post it (your last two replies spoke of).

Got home, decided to fiddle with the thing and found the "Default Settings" at the very end of the "More" choice.

So I reset everything, reprogrammed the settings to my car and it seems everything is correct now.

Thank you very much Larry and to you as well Rex.
