This week my son has been driving my car to school and to work because his developed a miss that I've not fixed yet. My wife has also used it for some errands.

Yesterday, while driving to my dental appointment, I noticed that they have pulled my current tank down to 34.5 MPH. It's better than they've done in the past, but posting that will really hit my numbers.

Here is the delemma, should I skip posting that tank since it technically isn't a hypermile tank, or should I just take it like a man, since it gives the full picture?

I'd like to take a poll on this one. I think I know which way I'll go, but was interested in how other's felt about it.

This is something I have stressed over in the past. On the one hand, I didn't do the driving so it's not a true indication of my talents/abilities. On the other hand, it is a measurement of the car's overall impact on fuel usage. As much as it hurts, I always enter all tanks. Although, I have come up with an ingenious plan to keep from taking a mileage hit: I don't let anyone else other than my son or other fellow hypermilers drive my car.:p

Wayne just logged a tank that his wife drove. It was not pretty. If he did it, I think we should, too. :(

When the hot summer comes with lots of A/C my tanks will go down, unless I drive in my bike jerseys + shorts + slippers + no A/C!

If I drove in Chicago, which has heavy traffic, my mpg would really be down. If you're going the right way, Houston's traffic is low!

I guess it's up to you, but I'd go ahead and enter it, and just leave a note that you didn't drive the whole tank. Personally I'd just go ahead and enter it so you have a lifetime record of mpg for the car.

Yeah, add it in. Just say someone else drove it for however long they did.

My father hates driving my car--he complains it bounces "like a basketball" when he hits a pothole. I counter by asking why he hit the pothole to begin with (avoid it?) and then ask why he was doing 80 when he hit it, exacerbating the bouncing.

52 PSI. :p

But he hates the rough ride, and consequently doesn't drive it.

Believe me I hated putting in my first tank after I purchased the HCH (42.7mpg), but have kept it there because I wanted a lifetime mpg not just a best tanks record. Plus it allows for others to see what can be done with just a little work. With having other people driving your car, if notated properly, will show people what can happen if the driver doesn't care as much about FE and further reinforces that most of increasing FE is attitude and driver habits.

Okay, not many seemed to care that much, and those that did post were all for me putting down a tank that non-hypermilers killed. Thanks guys.

Actually, I do thank you, and I agree with your reasons. I appreciate your input.

One reason I tried this post, was because I know hard it is to log tanks that are killers and no fault of mine, and I hoped to see just what I have read above.

Like everyone else, I've worked very hard to get up to my current status with this car, and I started logging tanks back when I first started and my MPG was a hurter.

I had planned to log this tank all along, after all, this is supposed to be competition with myself, and I know I can turn a pretty good tank. I'm still trying for all my tanks to be in the 40s, with a current goal of a 45 MPG tank. I think an under body pan could be of great assist with this car. The rear bumper acts as a scoop to nowhere, and has to be killing me.

The reality is that most of us must share a car with a family member, and if they aren't hypermiling also, how are you ever supposed to see how well your contribution can get? I feel your pain, and understand why some must try to keep a separate log of only their driving. That must be hard to determine, but how else are they supposed to see how their techniques are getting better?

I have it easy, because I am usually the primary driver, and my easy way out of this one is to log the tank, and explain that "it was the woman." (Only kidding ladies.) Tomorrow is my day to fillup on my way home from services. We pass the cheapest gas in town only this one day each week.
