Hi All:

___Again not really news worthy but interesting to see American Iron challenge the world for performance supremacy.

Fortunately GM’s $100,000 ZR1 is only expected sell 2,000 or so units. (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080425/AUTO01/804250349/1148)

Fuel Economy … unknown? -- Ed.

The 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1's supercharged V-8 officially produces 638-horsepower, General Motors Corp. executives announced today. GM completed SAE certification of the ZR1's 6.2-liter LS9 engine and released the results at midnight.

The final tally: 638 horses and 604-pound-feet torque and blistering top speed of 205 mph.

The ZR1 will be built at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky, home to the regular Corvette and Z06.

The LS9 engine will be hand built at GM's Performance Build Center in Wixom.

With a 0-60 time besting the Corvette Z06's 3.7 seconds, the ZR1 enters supercar territory with its power and quickness.

Final numbers have not been released… http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080425/AUTO01/804250349/1148

I think a car like this is perfectly valid. Only 2,000 copies made. Based on the regular Corvette, it should have decent gas mileage for a supercar. It's not even a drop in the bucket of fuel usage, but those with the means can still have their toys.

It's also one of my favorite fast cars, and I think this latest generation is the best yet.

Nice car. I wouldn't want to get one though. My youngest son would want to drive it, and that would mean trouble.

I think that the regular vette has 438 HP (more than enough for 99.999999% of world population).about 195 MPH top speed and still gets 26mpg on new EPA testing......I wonder that if driven carefully someome can get above 30 easily.........BUT the ZR1 is after ferraris and lambos........still a bargain at $100,000 comparatively speaking......

Hi All:

___I wonder if GM would allow just one of us to take it on one of those special drives on our favorite road with nobody around … The Car and Driver aficionados are starting to lick their chops until they here … "You know, top speed of 35 mph with 40 miles of competition level P&G just to see what its worth :D I am thinking 50 - 55 mpg myself
