___To be included in the Skilled hypermiler list, you need to achieve and then maintain an lmpg (Lifetime mpg) > your automobiles combined (1985 – 2007) EPA city/hwy estimates after a minimum of 5,000 miles. The Expert and Elite classes include those that have achieved and maintained an lmpg 25% and 50% greater then their respective automobiles EPA city/highway combined estimates beyond a minimum of 5,000 miles.

___For 2008 and later vehicles, you should use the new and less stringent 2008 EPA ratings. The Skilled, Expert and Elite classes will include those that have achieved and maintained an lmpg of 20%, 45% and 70% greater then their respective 2008 and later automobiles EPA city/highway combined estimates beyond the minimum of 5,000 miles.

___I hope everyone would include all of their own known tanks rather then just a few of there later ones to keep CleanMPG’s honorary list as truthful as possible.

___I will attempt to keep it up to date but if I missed anyone, PM me.

___Good Luck

How do you register your vehicles to get those blue box footers? I checked the FAQ and could not find it, also checked in the edit profile section.

Thanks,

When you add a car to the mileage database and then add a tank to that car an image is automaticaly generated for that vehicle.

To get the url of the image just click on the vehicle name on the mileage logs page and select copy image location. Then you can paste it into into your signature surrounded by (img)(/img) tags (replace the () with []).

Hi All:

___We added our first hypermiler not included in the original list of inductees. Let me personally congratulate Sledge along with his 06 HCH-II named Silver Speedster II (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=118) for making every effort to break into the hypermiling ranks. Looking at his last 3 tanks definitely shows he is doing something right … 55.7, 53.06, and then an excellent last tank of 59.653 mpg’s pushed him over the top. Well done Sledge!

Hi All:

___Time to update the member’s progress as seen in the CleanMPG DBase.

___I saw Diamond Larry kick out his hypermiling goal soon after my last update so I want to add him first. Not only does he own an excellent for its day, Saturn SL-1 (EPA estimated (29/40)) named Diamondlarry’s vehicle ( http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=141), he has some interesting head mods to boot. A few more tanks and he will have Expert status locked up in fact! Keep up those great tanks and congratulations Larry for continuing to punch out the great tanks!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/141.png

___I look forward to adding our next group of inductees in the not to distant future. Just remember to never give up and keep on working those iFCD’s, aFCD’s, and/or plain old gas gauge’s to the best of your ability ;)

___Good Luck and congratulations Larry.

Thanks Wayne. I didn't realize I had made it. For some reason I was thinking I had to have 5,000 miles to be listed as a hypermiler. I guess that is for the expert and elite categories. This tank I'm on right now is looking very good! Since I'm still calibrating the Scanguage2 I'm not real sure how I'm doing but it is reading right around 49 for the tank. The guage however, is reading around 20-25 miles behind my trip to Indy last month when I got 55+. The odometer is reading 127.? and the fuel guage is still reading above the full mark. It looks like it will take quite awhile until I'm ready for a fill-up and a definitive answer.
Edit: Wow! I must be doing more driving than I thought. I had no idea I was over 10,000 miles.

Hi Larry:

___You certainly do deserve the Hypermiler tag given 10K miles beyond EPA combined! From my reads, less then 2% of our nations populace reaches this level and with your upcoming Expert status (you will be there soon ;)), you are really and I mean really learning to push tanks.

___As for the ScanGauge II, Tom and I are still waiting for CleanMPG’s own for review. Ron told us maybe the second batch ;)

___Good Luck and congratulations.

What's really ebarassing/maddening:o  is that I've had the car for about 36,000 of it's 135,000+ miles. I computed every single tank but it wasn't until last fall that I was putting them into any kind of a database. That means my lmpg figure would probably be already OVER the expert level since I routinely got 42-44 the first summer I had the car. I also have a couple more tricks up my sleeve for approaching the elite level.
Edit: Those tricks include an ozone generator that I'm beta testing and an upgrade to Bridgestone B381 LRR tires in the next week or two.

___Another hypermiler since the last update …

___Please welcome and congratulate Zadsmc along with his HCH-I named Racing Rat Trap. 120 + % of the EPA combined in an HCH-I is not an easy thing to do and especially at the steady state 60 + mph speeds he is traveling at!

Hi All:

___Time for an update!

___Let us first start out by congratulating an old time Hypermiler of sorts to the CleanMPG list of inductees. Not only has he helped train hundreds of drivers before him, he is a great guy all around as well. With that, please welcome and congratulate Hot Georgia and his HCH-I named Hot Georgia’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=125). Not only is he an Expert qualified driver, I can tell he is so close to knocking out a personal best - 1,000 mile tank, he can smell it!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/125.png

___Next I want to congratulate PCK and his HCH-II named PCK’s HCH (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=162) appropriately. His last few tanks had a nice jump and if can hold that kind of performance over the next few months, who knows what is possible once he really decides to push it ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/162.png

___And then our own CleanMPG Logo designer, Sledge in his HCH-II named Silver Speedster II (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=118). Not only does he have a quick wit and creative mind, he can drive with the best of them!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/118.png

___A relatively new member busted into the hypermiler ranks with practical ease over his past 2 tanks. Please welcome and congratulate Birchman2 and his HCH-2 named My First Honda (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=160). He had the normal slow start like most first time hybrid drivers but steadily picked it up to numbers some will only dream of! Way to go Birchman2! I will have Tom look at his sig as it has a small issue at this point in time.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/160.png

___And then a non-hybrid driver who has really picked it up over the last few months with a personal best 47 mpg tank on his last fill in fact. Please welcome and congratulate Lindermant and his 05 Honda Civic w/ Auto named Lindermant’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=170). Not only was that last tank super hot, he breached Expert status all the while achieving that goal with a std. Automatic transmission! That makes it even more endearing in my book.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/170.png

___Next we have an FEH driver. Let us congratulate Green FEH in his FWD FEH named Green FEH (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=172). Another with a great start, steady climb and then a breakout to a personal best last fill. I love to see this kind of increase as there was a lot of learning, practicing, and battling involved to get to this level. Way to go Green FEH!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/172.png

___Our final Hypermiler to be congratulated today goes by the nick UH2L driving a SAAB 900S named UH2L’s Vehicle 1 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=169). Although some might not appreciate the total stats, he is doing a decent job with the vehicle he owns. UH2L, we need to see some breakout of those tanks to see where you have come from and where you are headed too.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/169.png

___With that, thank you all for continuing to push, learning how to improve, and battling for every ounce given what you have already built. Where have I been these last 2 weeks anyway?

___Good Luck and congratulations to you all!

Hi All:

___We have some new Hypermilers to add to our Band of Brothers and Sisters since the last update almost 3 weeks ago …

___Let me start out by congratulating a great friend of mine named Bill Kinney known as Billy around the web and his insight 5-speed named Billy’s Insight (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=60) for some superior long distance drives around the North American continent. When I say around the N/A continent, I am talking from the Pacific Northwest, to West Coast, the Mexican border, the Central Midwest, up to almost the Artic Circle and back home again. Not only is he our first addition, has anyone noticed he has also achieved Elite status on his induction? Way to go Billy!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/60.png

___Next I want to congratulate a new friend and soon to be world record holder for distance on a single tank of fuel from a mass produced automobile, Randall and his Insight 5-speed named Highwater’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=176) out of Oklahoma. A quick look over his tank over tank improvements over the year as well as his instant Expert status is about all you need to understand about the new benchmarks he has set for all to admire. Keep up those great tanks Randall as you are making the world take notice like no other!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/176.png

___Yet another consummate Insighter and friend I have come to know personally over the years … Please welcome and congratulate Brian H. or NEmystic as most have come to know him over the years at IC driving his Insight 5-speed named Sputnik (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=177). Not only has he maintained Hypermiler status, he has done so while driving some of the most challenging terrain (mountains of Western MA.) that anyone could imagine outside of possibly a downtown San Francisco native could appreciate. Keep up the great drives Brian as you certainly have earned my respect as well as others.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/177.png

___Another Insighter? Please welcome Joe S’s and his 2002 Honda Insight named Peta (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=178). Joe, let us try and break those numbers out a bit on your next round of updates to see your own improvements over the months/years if possible …

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/178.png

___And our final Insighter for this morning, please welcome and congratulate HAFNHAF in his 2000 Honda Insight named HAFNHAF (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=187). Doing what he needs to by beating the EPA combined on every tank just as he should. Keep up the great work but don’t let it slip if you know what I mean ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/187.png

___Next we have a Prius II driver who has been doing everything under the sun to continually improve his segments and tanks while pushing to the top of the Prius II list. Please welcome and congratulate Dcoyne78 and his Prius II named Lowco2 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=182). Keep an eye out for Dennis as he is aggressive enough to not only rise to the top but to maintain his Prius II there for as long as possible.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/182.png

___Next comes the HCH-II pilot’s. Please welcome and congratulate Riksmg1’s and 2006 HCH-II named Riksmg1’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=155). I see no discernable pattern but he is doing what needs to be done to maintain a healthy margin above the EPA combined. Nice job Riksmg1!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/155.png

___Finally a congratulations and a warm welcome to our last hypermiler named Wmschmitz’s and his 2006 HCH-II named Schmitz's (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=191). Looking at his tank data, I see the usual initial break-in and learning curve, steady climb, and then the breakout for true hypermile recognition. Nice job and keep up that kind of climb as it is not only a classic, it is an inspiration for all newer drivers who happen to view your details as a roadmap for their own.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/191.png

___Good Luck and congratulations to you all as you have certainly earned my respect and hopefully that of your peers around the world!

___We have some manual editing of the EPA numbers as they appear in the sigs given some may have manually entered their automobiles EPA numbers incorrectly or the DBase’s list allowed its own share of mistakes … We will take care of these miscues as soon as possible.

OK, I thought about it for a little bit, and this is what I'm tryin' to say:

I see hypermilers as trying to work themselves out of a job. If I'm allowed to die of old age, I believe I will see the day when personal transportation will not consume a hydrocarbon fuel. That is what I'm saying in my sig about the Insight growing up to become a gas hog. Someday in the future, the little beauty will either be converted to pure EV or put up on blocks, and dusted off for the remember when parties.

Once we get past burning the hydrocarbons, we here at CLNMPG will likely do the same with kilowatts or whatever energies we use for motovation.

I feel like I'm part of a team around here, and from reading a lot of different posts since signing up, it seems everyone else feels the same. Lots of encouragment from fellow members no matter what you drive. Wayne encouraged me, after meeting him at Madison for the first time, to do the overfill thing and see if I could beat his long distance tank. The leader of the pack saying, here I am take me out :Banane36: . Then someone like Justin from the madisonhybridgroup, will come along and shoot me down.:Banane45: That young man is going to make a difference in this world. I just barely got to make his aquaintance at HF06. And Billy hits the ground running at ~100lmpg. Then there's another fellow IC'er, whose hypermiling chart is currently dormant, and that is Rick Reese. When he gets back in the country, let the party begin.:Banane57: . I hope he will join us here as well. He's got like 150,000 miles at over 90mpg. There's something else to shoot at:Banane36: There are a lot of others that Wayne has mentioned above that I have benefited from, by reading their posts. I've even read the Prius guys stuff:eek: .

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the team. Whatever I do......I hope the team comes out ahead.

Hi All:

___Just a week later and we have a few more hypermilers to congratulate!

___Our first hypermiler goes by the nick Mr. Kite driving his 2006 HCH-II named Thrust! (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=193). Right about the end of June something changed and it was probably not just break in. Way to keep those 60 + mpg tanks coming as it looks like you aren’t even really starting to push … just yet that is ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/193.png

___Our next hypermiler is someone who has done a great service to HCH-II owners the world over with her article entitled “Adapting Basic Hypermiling Techniques to the HCH-II (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1306)”. Finally she been able to drive without having her hubby taking her segments and tanks down over ultra short drives again and again. Tarabell, congratulations as you most certainly deserve the recognition and another thank you for teaching all of us what its like to drive the HCH-II to near it limits without taking extreme measures.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/55.png

___There are a quite a few drivers who are just under the 5,000 mile minimum requirement for recognition who are just about to punch through that minimum while holding above EPA combined. Don’t stop pushing and most certainly do not stop posting. Winter is coming up and we all have to build the largest buffers possibly knowing what is ahead.

___Good Luck and congrats to both Mr. Kite and Tarabell for nailing down what the naysayers tell us is impossible again and again ;)

expect a 5 to 10mpg drop :(

I *may* even reduce the use of remote starting my car so my hit isn't as bad. Last winter I dropped from about 52mpg to about 34mpg. But that isn't very typical because I do very nasty things in the winter with my car.

Hi MoGryph:

___Elite is 50% above EPA combined or 75 lmpg in your HCH-II … You are getting there but it is not an overnight kind of thing. You really have to push tanks and I am talking about every time you turn the key and never ever give up to maintain it year round. Not impossible but you can never let up and you will probably have to step up to the most of advanced techniques to get there. Some commutes depending on where you live (year round temps) and the type of traffic/terrain make it impossible whereas others make it a bit easier … In any case, Expert is within reach at 62.5 lmpg and you still have over 2500 miles to get there one way or the other. Take it as a personal challenge as I want you to have at least an Expert Rating at the 5K mark but you will have to step it up a notch or two. I will be looking forward to making your intro to the inductees with an announcement in about 6 - 7 short weeks and as always; I am watching everyone’s tanks go in ;)

___Good Luck

Thanks. I thought I had plateaued until today. I just started FASing in my Odyssey (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1933) and will try it in the HCHII the next time I drive it. Several sections of my daily commute are very conducive to an FAS.

Hi Mr. Kite:

___As I believe Tom or Dan K said to me just a few months ago, “May the FAS be with you”. I will pass these magnificent words of wisdom on to you as well :D

___Be careful FAS’ing the Ody as it uses the same (similar) tranny as the MDX … Pretty close anyway and they are not known for being bullet proof by those that do beat the hell out of them running 0 – 60 in 10 seconds or less all the time :( Not that a hypermiler would ever cause damage but I wouldn’t P&G her as you would be asking for trouble down the road … They (The MDX and Ody’s) are just too darn heavy. You can receive great FE from them as I am sure you have seen the MDX pics but getting > 30 compared to 70 + from the HCH-II is like fishing with dynamite … You can do it but why bother when the HCH-II does it so much better if you know what I mean :)

___Good Luck and congrats on jumping into the hypermiler ranks here at CleanMPG!

I'm not one to P&G anyway. My FAS's were going downhill and approaching stoplights. Here's an example: On my drive home, there is a distance of 1.0 miles between two intersections. After passing the first intersection, I immediately round a mild hill and do a FAS. The road is a very mild downhill slope the rest of the way to the next intersection. My speed is just over 30 and the limit is 30. The limit then drops to 25. My speed starts approaching 20mph as I near the next intersection. Depending on the state of the light, I either come to a stop or restart the engine.

How rough is it on the tranny to shift from N to D while moving? It felt pretty smooth other than the time I did not let the RPMs stabilize before shifting. Wear and tear on the vehicle is certainly something I would consider.

I know the HCH-II is a lot more fun to drive from a FE perspective, but I do not get to drive it every day. Since we bought the HCH-II, we have still consumed more fuel in the Odyssey than the HCH-II so there is a lot of fuel to be saved. Based upon my one day experiment, it looks like using a bit of FASing can easily improve my FE by 20%.

___Wayne

What MDX pictures are you referring to? I'd really like to be able to hit even 100% of the EPA combined mileage on my wife's Odyssey. Alot of people complain about the Odyssey fuel economy. There used to be a database online where people would input their Odyssey fuel mileage and I never saw a single entry close to the EPA highway mileage.

....nevermind. I did a search and see you own an MDX and have gotten over 30mpg on some segments. You warn against P&G. What techniques did you use to get over 30mpg on your MDX? I might have to borrow the wife's Odyssey for a week to see if I can knockout a higher than EPA combined tank.

Hi Antrey:

___You are not alone as non-EPA combined like FE is the same as achieved over at AcuraMDX.org as well. I was a prolific poster over there before we picked up the MDX and well into owning it but it was not my vehicle and I never really got to drive it much :( Thus the slowly fading interest. That vehicle was my wife’s doing more then mine although I do have to say the lux end of the deal sure was nice! Most members over there are probably in the high 17’s, low 18’s as an lmpg if I would take a guess and it is just not acceptable knowing what the darn thing can be driven too when heading out to the store or wherever. The Ody has even more advantage as it doesn’t have 2 fluid clutches locking up the rear end for AWD during ANY acceleration up to 18 mph, it is more Fuel efficient to begin with, and is much lower to the ground. Frontal area is probably similar if not larger however? You have to FAS to every stop as should be the case with all automobiles … The one time I attempted P&G, she was pushing into the high 30’s/low 40’s IIRC. Either way, that tranny is not to be toyed with. FAS’ing to a stop and re-engagement like you are leaving home in the morning is fine but you do not want to get into a scenario where you are doing this at speed (P&G) if you can help it. The MDX/Pilot/Ody tranny is smooth as silk but the re-engagement time (time for it to be ready to accept torque) leaves a lot to be desired …

___As how to get to 30 + … It is just like doubling the EPA only easier because you are only shooting for 25 - 50% of the EPA combined depending on which Ody you own. You have all the tools in the tool box and you use them at the appropriate times. They are not all that hard to master and some would be ill advised in the case of the MDX/Pilot/Ody as explained above but put them altogether and you can make those big pigs sing just like an Accord, the Ranger, Corolla, whatever or a Hybrid of whatever type when within its element. You just have to accept ½ or less of what a decent hybrid driver would receive is all :(

___Good Luck

Hi Rich:

___Ouch! It looks like someone I know will be doing some tank entries over the next few days ;) You can get started here as Tom never wrote the code to do the transfer from GH via single touch of the button ... He just didn't think it would be fair to do that :D

Hi All:

___A nice little update …

___First we have an Insighter named NEmystic in his 2001 Honda Insight named Sputnik (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=177). Many may recognize him from IC and let me both welcome and congratulate him for the achievement. Straight up hard work in his case given the hills of MA. and the normal higher FE in the summer and getting killed in the winter type tanks. Nice job Brian given your location!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/177.png

___Next we have an Escape Driver who I came to know from one of the many Milwaukee Hybrid Group meets. Please welcome and congratulate DebbieKatz and her 2005 FWD FEH named StealthMobile (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=145). Not only does she own an excellent Hybrid SUV, she has accumulated the highest lmpg other then GaryG in the country that I know of! Way to go Debbie! Your husband is always still just a passenger I hope ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/145.png

___Pravus Prime, I don’t see those tanks yet ;)

___Psyshack, you are oh so close to popping into the expert ranks. Just one more should do it!

___There has been a lot of ranking changes with many more to come so keep pushing those tanks and never give up. The fall temps are soon to be affecting us Northern drivers and the Southern drivers are going to be enjoying weather to die for over the next 3 months so take advantage of whatever Mother Nature offers. Winter is only a stones throw away and we all know how ugly that can get no matter where you live!

___Finally, there are a lot of hybrid owners registering their automobiles as regular gas vehicles. Can those hybrid owners who find themselves in this situation edit your vehicles description so that you are moved into the hybrid category with the proper coloring and coding.

___Good Luck to all and keep up those fantastic tanks!

Hi All:

___Time for an update!

___Let me start by saying we have had one heck of a summer with hybrid and non-hybrid drivers alike punching through their respective pinnacles with ever increasing tanks. Keep up the great work and thanks for not letting your guard down. There are also more new owners knocking at the door as I type and I cannot wait to see them bust through with their own recognition. With that, let us get down to business.

___First let me congratulate Proco driving his 2006 HCH-II named Proco’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=164). His tanks are all over the map but they are all over the map mostly above 53 mpg’s and at a good clip as well! Anyone that starts out with a 58 + mpg first tank in a brand new Prius II has my respect!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/164.png

___Next we have HyChi nailing down hypermiler status in his 2006 HCH-II named HyChi’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=144). From tank #3 through his last have been rock steady at or around EPA combined + 10% in fact. Congratulations HyChi for achieving what most HCH-II pilots will never see …

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/144.png

___Our next hypermiler to be recognized is also an HCH-II driver who I have had the pleasure of meeting in person more then a few times now. Please congratulate Meggert for pushing his HCH-II named Magno (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=138) to hypermiler status basically from tank #3 to the point he surpassed the minimum 5,000 mile mark. Mark, way to go!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/138.png

___And on to our non-hybrid hypermiler’s who are punching out averages that will make your mouth drop in amazement.

___Let me congratulate Krousdb and his 1992 Honda Civic VX named The VX (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=165). He has been averaging > 70 mpg’s in his VX from tank #3 forward and has immediately entered the Expert ranks. I have no doubt he will keep pushing her for higher and higher averages as time moves forward as his last RT segment was somewhere in the mid 80’s in fact!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/165.png

___Next let me recognize Ketelone and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Ketelone’s 2007 Yaris (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=208) for pushing into hypermiler status with the std. climb from EPA city to beyond EPA highway over the last 1,500 miles. I have no doubt he will not let that kind of FE go now that he knows what she can do. I have a soft spot for the Yaris as it is cute as a bug and appears to have some real potential for FE greatness. Ketelone, you are doing great on your climb and I believe you will continue to see even better tanks in the future!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/208.png

___Our final new addition added his second vehicle to the hypermiler ranks with this update. Please congratulate Mr. Kite and his 2005 Honda Odyssey named Black Sunshine (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=194). A bit inconsistent at first, he has been performing progressively better as time moves forward. His last tank proved to be a stunner with a total range of over 650 miles and we are talking about a full sized Minivan! Keep punching out those kinds of tanks and we might have to add a new forum dedicated to Hypermiling Minivans exclusively :D

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/194.png

___My final mention happens to come from another friend of the CleanMPG family named Psyshack driving his 06 Honda Civic named Papa’s Express (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=159). Having first hand experience dealing with the winds he has to endure in OK. on a daily basis, I have to give him credit for pushing when the winds are at their worse. This means 2/3 of the time with the side wind hindrance or the full blown head on killing him. Psy, thank you for continually pushing that Civic through 40 + mpg tanks again and again and again …

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/159.png

___Please have a look at all our latest inductees tanks as linked and hopefully there is something in the data streams you can take home and apply to your own daily grind. With winter just starting to rear her ugly head (snow flurries are being predicted for Chicago in a few days :(), do not stop pushing and use what you have learned this summer to try and keep those tanks up through the winter months. Spring is only 5 short months away for some of us.

___Good Luck and congratulations to you all.

Hi All:
___First let me congratulate Proco driving his 2006 HCH-II named Proco’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=164). His tanks are all over the map but they are all over the map mostly above 53 mpg’s and at a good clip as well! Anyone that starts out with a 58 + mpg first tank in a brand new Prius II has my respect!

Considering I just drive the thing and don't really try to hypermile, I'm quite happy with where I am right now. It won't last, though. The car lives outside and the weather's getting colder. The inconsistency can be explained by my commute and NJ law.

My commute is 50 miles ... 40 on the highway. Most days the morning commute has some form of stop & go for about 15 miles with a lot of up & down. Of course, starting from an elevation of about 20 feet makes just about any commute "uphill". :)

The biggest pain is our gas law. I can't fill my own tank, so I'm at the mercy of the attendant. I never know if the hose will be removed, right after click-off, after rounding up to the next $0.25 or adding more than the next $.25.

Tanks 6-9 are a good example of this. My calculations gave 60.73, 51.82, 63.63 and 49.77. But my MFD gave me 56.8, 58.0, 57.8, 55.8. The two 60's are a result of the hose being removed right after click off (or only filling an added 5 cents or so). The 51 & 49 were topped off a little more, after being "underfilled)

I track my MFD stats on GreenHybrid (http://www.greenhybrid.com/compare/mileage/car/3163.html) and the graph isn't nearly so erratic.

But, like I said, the good times aren't going to last. But it's still nice to be on the list for a little while. Even if the math on my sig doesn't accurately reflect my commute (80% hwy & 20% city).:p

Thank You!!

The winds arent that bad.... lolololololol Well maybe they are at times. :)

The cool of fall is about to invade us here. It was in the high 40's this am. With the warm temps the last week to ten days. I put the oem air intake tube back on. And boy could I tell it with intake air temps never getting above 67F this morning. Was a struggle to keep 45 mpg. With temps this afternoon in the lower 70's I will remove the tube when I get home this evening and try to salvage this tank.

I would like to encourage our memebers to keep there heads up thru the coming fall and winter. I have a fealing we are going to have a hard winter this year. We have had mild winters here for 5 years or so lately. We are due.

Would somebody please go recurite a R-18 Civic owner, or go buy one so Im not alone in this journey. >>> Wanyne? :)

Hi All:

___After our last update, we had another input his tanks into the DBase. Let me congratulate Pravus Prime for making the grade in his 2006 AWD FEH named Pravus Prime’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=235). From his tank data, he is driving a very consistent 10% above the EPA in almost any weather condition. Nice job indeed and knowing Rich personally, I do not see him letting go of that anytime soon!

It's been challenging and alot of fun getting the most out of my HCH2. Lately it's been difficult keeping the mpg up. I had to reinflate the tires after my oil change, but even so I've been struggling to keep the tank mpg over 51. I'll keep on pushing it, though, through the cold weather and winter blend gasoline. Thanks to you all for the encouragement and for passing along such great information. It's made all the difference!

Hi All:

___About time for another update :D

___Let me congratulate Jason “Citrus Insighter” for making the hypermiler list this update. That being his 2000 Honda Insight named Drive’s Great Less Fillin (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=124). It is amazing to me that he can hold onto the mark with his traffic strewn 8-mile commute back and forth to school and in the Milwaukee area’s somewhat cold winter temps. I do not have any more to offer him other then what his father often say’s, “keep workin it”. Being a co-driver at the Insight Marathon, I was more then happy to add him to the list.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/124.png

___The next addition is another friend of mine, Carl Hurschik in his 2005 Prius II named Precious Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewuser=Carl%20Hurschik). I recommend that all look over his recent summer tanks because nobody was pushing a Prius II like that over the period other then our friends in Japan. Keep up the great work Carl and I know a 90 mpg tank is in your future when it warms up again next summer!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/243.png

___Our next addition is a respected newcomer to CleanMPG named Rhwinger in his 2006 HCH-II named Bond Mobile (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=186). With the string of 56 - 63 mpg tanks, I have no doubt he will hold onto Hypermiler status through the colder winter months. Keep up the great work Bob!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/186.png

___And an addition I am really proud to announce. Please congratulate Marie in her 2004 Prius II named Mom’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=206). I remember when she first started driving the Prius II and her idea of hypermiling was push the Start button, then the accelerator and the brake when she arrived at her destination. She has since graduated from those humble beginnings to conduct P&G clinics helping others increase their own FE wherever and whenever possible. Usually at the Milwaukee Hybrid Group Meets where you will find her actively keeping the minutes as we are all discussing whatever the topic of the minute is. Congratulations Marie and I am extremely proud to be the one to post your accomplishment!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/206.png

___Please also congratulate a relative newcomer to CleanMPG named Bear15 and his 2006 HCH-II named OPEC Nightmare (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=256). He and his son have learned how to hold onto 55 mpg tanks as the temps have fallen drastically. I cannot wait to see what he does next summer in warmer temps and with a few more miles under his belt. Given his penchant for FE discussions, keep an eye for this guy as I expect big things from him in the future!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/256.png

___Our final addition of the day is non-other then Chucko and his 2006 Toyota Highlander named The Duck (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=180). With colder temps beginning to affect his 4WD HiHy’s FE, let us all wish him luck holding onto his recently achieved Hypermiler status.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/180.png

___B-Man, could you re-post your tank’s? You have achieved what is needed to be recognized but I do not see any tank’s? I will speak to Tom about your situation this evening to see if we can remedy the problem post haste.

___Good Luck to you all and thank you for continuing to punch out those huge tanks!

Hi All:

___It has been awhile since the last update and there was a shocker added since that time …

___Out first hypermiler came out of nowhere and appears to have been shot from a cannon! Please welcome and congratulate Bigmass and his HCH-I named Bigmass’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=259). Very few and I mean very few in the world have > 80 mpg tanks in one and this individual has 4 to his credit! I still have to work out what exact vehicle he is driving or if he is using UK gallons possibly given his manually entered EPA estimates do not match anything we know of :( I will add him to the Elite ranks in short order once the details are sorted out given that is where an HCH-I w/ an lmpg of 74.7 belongs!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/259.png

___Our next hypermiler goes by the name Dogarm driving his 2006 HCH-II named Rhino (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=197). Not much to say other then a very steady 50 - 55 mpg tanks all the way across the board! Let us all hope he can maintain his HCH-II’s lmpg through the winter months.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/197.png

___A non-hybrid Civic has entered the fray. Please congratulate B-Man and his 2006 Civic EX named The Silver Suppository (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=262). Since he only edits a single tank, we do not have much details but holding above the EPA combined is all that is needed.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/262.png

___The next hypermiler is driving an interesting vehicle. Please congratulate Ma and Pa driving their 4WD 2006 Honda CRV named Ma and Pa’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=218). It looks like winter is starting to take its toll but with the good start, I don’t see them being knocked off the list anytime soon.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/218.png

___Yet another Honda … Please welcome and congratulate Bad Driver and his V6 Accord named Bad Drivers Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=245). Anyone pulling the EPA combined out of this powerful a vehicle has my respect.

Hi Proco:

___You are so very very close too :(

___I silently pull those that fall off the list and I have already added, removed and added again 2 drivers in the recent past. I do not announce the deletions and re-additions but they know who they are and with a little luck, they will again be shown. At this time of year, it is expected to see some of the guys and gals right on the edge removed but with warmer spring temps in a few months, they may still make it back. At least that is my wish anyway.

Hi All:

___It is about time I update the list and thanks for reminding me Antrey! WOW is there a huge amount of drivers to add so let us get started …

___Please welcome and congratulate Lightfoot and his 2006 Honda Insight named Little Beast (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=238). Although colder temps are hurting him as much as us, he is holding a solid 10% above EPA combined overall. Way to go Lightfoot!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/238.png

___Next we have an old friend of CleanMPG known to us all as Ericbecky driving his 2000 Honda Insight named Red (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=115). I have read in the weekly daily grind thread(s) of some incredible 90 + mpg segments in under 40 degree Temps which means he is really pushing. Nice Job Eric!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/115.png

___Please congratulate VaBeachPrius driving his 2006 Prius II named Red Rocket (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=255). Watch out for this guy as I have the feeling there may be a 90 + mpg tank come mid-summer!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/255.png

___Then we have TheForce driving his 2006 Prius II named InfraRed (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=273). Given his last EPA busting tank in the coldest temps he has ever experienced, I would say he now knows his Prius II’s capabilities :) Nice Job The Force!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/273.png

___Next is a member who came in way under the radar screen. Please welcome and congratulate Cuchulain driving his 1999 Prius I named fuji-99NHW10 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=275). I believe he is from Japan given a note in an early tank about a Typhoon. Look at his range and steady 55 mpg + tanks. Nice job Cuchulain and I cannot wait to hear more from you!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/275.png

___Next we have an Elite hypermiler in a non-hybrid way up the list. Please congratulate DiamondLarry driving his 1999 Saturn SL2 named DOHCtor for Green MPG (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=228). Not only is he punching out great segments as can be seen in his additions to the Daily Grind forum, he is also considering a hybrid to really pump up the FE expectations with his next ride. Larry, keep up those white hot tanks!!!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/228.png

___Please welcome and congratulate Armavir driving his 2006 Honda Civic named The Civic (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=287). Starting out around EPA highway, his last two tanks in ever decreasing temps have shown he has found what we are all striving for and I cannot wait to see what he does this spring and summer. Keep pushing Armavir as we are all behind you.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/287.png

___A Honda Fit joins the ranks! Please welcome and congratulate Jimbo7 and his 2007 Honda Fit named Jimbo7’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=280). I hope he will split out future tanks so we can see any improvements over time but just making the list is a pretty nice way to start.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/280.png

___A Scion XB? I wasn’t expecting this one but let us all welcome and congratulate N1JI’s driving his 2004 Toyota Scion XB named N1JI’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=201). One of his tank entries reads as follows: My wife used the car one night to pick up the kids and she let it idle for 20-30 minutes. I think most of us know what happens when our spouses drive our vehicles and it is nice to see an addition like this in the tank notes. It placed a smile on my face anyway :)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/201.png

___Then we have an FEH. Please congratulate WBruff driving his 2005 FWD FEH named WBruff’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=68). Although the winter temps are hurting his tanks, hopefully he can hold on until the summer month massive increases. He knows what is possible when looking at the 38 and 39 mpg tanks last summer!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/68.png

___And one of my favorites. Although this is Psyshack’s 2005 Honda Accord named Nana’s Ruby (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=268), it is his wife that does most of the driving in it. I think she could teach him a thing or two about patience given she drives into the heart of Tulsa and back daily and still holds onto a very respectable lmpg that anyone could appreciate ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/268.png

___Next we have a new member to congratulate named Bruce driving a 1999 Chevrolet Prizm named Prizmatic (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=308). Take a look at his first tanks vs. the many just recently posted. This is an excellent increase as time moves forward and I cannot wait to see what his Prizm is worth this coming summer! Nice job Bruce!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/308.png

___Antrey, sorry for not updating sooner :( Please congratulate Antrey driving his 2005 SAAB 9-2X Aero named Antrey’s 285Hp Saab 9-2X (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=189). Not only is he holding an expert rated lmpg, he has a shot at Elite status this summer as temps warm and his techniques improve. His previous 37 mpg tanks give me hope anyway!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/189.png

___Then we have Antidarkness driving his 1990 Toyota Celica named Antidarkness’ Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewuser=antidarkness). A very steady posting of 30 - 32 mpg tanks for months and then all of a sudden he punches out a 39. Congratulations and I wonder what you were doing differently that last tank ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/269.png

___Our last addition comes by the way of RH77 driving his 2006 Acura TSX named Tessie (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=232). Another respected member here at CleanMPG and doing what he always does as steady as can be. Keep up those steady tanks RH77!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/232.png

___That was a long list. I did not expect to add so many hypermilers through the very worst temps of the winter season but was glad to see many new members (as well as old) break through the mire of winter and achieve hypermile recognition so well deserved. With that, I want to personally congratulate each and every one of you for pushing each and every segment to bring about an outcome we are all looking for whether that is in terms of personal savings, reduction in our personal global footprint, or reducing our oil dependence. You all deserve a round of applause and I hope you inspire others to do the same …

___Thanks to you all and Good Luck

Hello from Cuchulain in Japan

Thanks for the mention and sorry for slipping under your radar by arriving in stealth mode.

Its not easy being green but it helps if you are already Irish.:D

Temperatures in Japan, near Mt. Fuji anyway have been fairly mild with very little snow.
Last year Lake Yamanaka froze over for the first time in 20years, and there was still snow in April. I am looking forward to changing my snow tires soon so I may finally break out of my depressingly steady mpg(Also use second car at weekends..) . But the change in elevation 3000ft on my commute and 9% climbs are where I use most of my fuel. Cherry blossoms are expected in Tokyo by next week, so Spring is already on the way.

Happy St. Patricks Day:)

I was looking through the database and noticing that some people seem to have a "winter gap". I am not sure if some people put their high mpg cars away for the winter or they just don't want to show us their great winter fe. It is tough to keep up with those from the south in winter, although in spring through fall, northerners don't have the extreme heat to deal with so I guess it all works out. My winter FE is pretty bad, but at least I get to ski most weekends so I can't complain.

Hi Dennis:

___With the PM’s I sent out last week, hopefully more will update tanks and catch up as I would like to update this thread later this week. Once I hear back from those that received the PM’s I sent, another long overdue update will be heading our way :)

Hi All:

___Time for an update and what an interesting update it is! Not only is it spring and everyone’s numbers should be picking up (sorry for our southern members who just about to be blasted with summertime heat and needing A/C :() but this update includes 5 non-hybrids and 2 hybrids. With that, let’s get started.

___Our first addition is someone who I am not personally familiar with but owning an Insight makes him a special type of driver in his own right. Please welcome and congratulate SFW and his 2000 Honda Insight named Foo (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=124). Since he has simply entered total miles and total gallons consumed, I cannot make a comment on his segments but let’s hope he continues to push his own “Little beauty” to numbers that will make us all proud.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/331.png

___Our next hypermiler is someone who is not only climbing fast but participates almost daily in the “Daily Grind” thread(s). Please congratulate JimboK and his 2005 Prius II named Jim’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=296). Currently he is punching out segments anyone with a Prius II would be glad to have under their own Mileage Logs. If you follow the link, look at his breakout this spring as warm temps have finally arrived. To say this guy has talent would be an understatement ;)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/296.png

___Then we have our non-hybrids. Our first is Raguru and his 1996 Honda Civic LX named Raguru’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=234). Although he had a rough winter, it appears as if spring is helping him post 40 + mpg tanks again. Congratulations Raguru and I look forward to future tanks like that last one at > 43 mpg :)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/234.png

___Our second Yaris appears on the list this month. Please welcome and congratulate Ah yum and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Ah yum’s Yaris (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=257). I hope everyone has a chance to look over his tank data because he is far from peaking. In fact, he has been climbing like a rocket almost from day one at just 27.x to his last and personal best at 43.4 mpg. I have a feeling there will be a 50 + mpg tank coming from this young man in the not to distant future if he keeps continuously improving like he is now! I wonder what his lmpg would have looked today if he would have known back when he first drive it off the lot vs. what he knows today :D

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/257.png

___Our next recognized hypermiler is one I would have never expected. Please welcome and congratulate Akxb and his Toyota Scion XB named appropriately, Icebox (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=347). Not only does he reside in Alaska and drives in temps that would make a polar bear shiver, he is driving a vehicle that has to be almost as un-aerodynamic as a P/U truck! Take a look at his second to last tank as that should give you an idea as to his commitment and what we can expect in the future. Way to go Akxb and I cannot wait to add you to the Expert list on the next update!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/347.png

___And then one of my favorite automobiles driven by a new driver. Please welcome and congratulate Fredness and his 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 named Fredness ZX3 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=341). Spring temps are definitely helping him along but more importantly, his last tank was a breakout and all time best. I wonder if this has anything to do with the “CleanMPG effect” ;) I don’t think he will find those older achievements acceptable given what he knows today and I cannot wait to see what he does next!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/341.png

___Our final inductee drives a Toyota P/U truck and you don’t just drive one to achieve hypermiling recognition in my experience. Please welcome and congratulate Worthywads and his 2005 Toyota Tacoma named Worthywads Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=351). With the earlier launch through his own personal EPA and an even steeper upward slope then last year, let us all wish him luck on blowing out his personal bests from years gone by.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/351.png

___I want to personally thank all of our inductees for not only pushing the envelope but conserving resources and lowering emissions for all our sakes.

___I would also request feedback wrt removing some of our previous inductees for lack of tank updates. My Ranger for one has been running on the same tank of fuel since last Sept. with no updates since that time and my Insight is retired. For those not in the retired category let me know if you are still sitting on the same tank throughout the winter months and I will leave your vehicle in the list as is. For those outside of a 4 month fill up and tank upload, I will place you in a non-update status in my own documents with a quick reintroduction as soon as the your latest tanks have been uploaded.

___Finally, not only do I want to personally congratulate our new inductees, I want to thank them for pushing tanks and making all of us here at CleanMPG proud!

___Good Luck

Hey, Wayne, thanks as always for the words of encouragement.

Hi All:

___It has been three months since the last update and there has been a ton of excellent additions as well as a somewhat sad to say subtractions due to a lull of 3 months or more since their last tanks were entered :( Either way, there are some great drivers showing up so let us get down to business …

___In the Hybrid camp, let us start with the sole 2001 Honda Insight belonging to BlueBulletIP’s and named BlueBullet-1 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=375). Typical profile with a nice leap around March as well as holding above last years best with ease. Nice Job BlueBulletIP!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/375.png

___And then the Prius’ and there are a bunch! We have Mparrish and his 2007 Toyota Prius-II named Marc’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=304), Madman and his 2007 Toyota Prius-II named Bad egg (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=405), Alexstarfire and his 2002 Prius-I named Alexstarfire’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=336), Skwyre7 and his 2005 Prius-II named Prius (Hypermiled) (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=349), Dan and his 2007 Prius-II named Dan’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=311) and Abowles 2005 Prius-II named Abowles 10072005 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=491).

Marc, those are some wicked highs as of late :D
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/304.png

Madman, did the CleanMPG effect take hold or what :)
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/405.png

Alex, those are absolutely killer tanks from an 01!
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/336.png

Skwyre, nice climb out of last winter indeed ;)
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/349.png

Dan, I see the EPA combined is your absolute floor now.
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/311.png

Abowles, great last tank and I cannot wait to see more of those as time moves on.
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/491.png

___HCH-II’s anyone? We have Rocketman and his 2007 HCH-II named Rocketman’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=355) as well as Sparty Brutus and his 2007 HCH-II named Sparty Brutus’ vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=507).

Rocketman, it looks like Hypermiling is becoming second nature to you!
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/355.png

Sparty Brutus, you must have been peeking at Tarabell’s article as well :D
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/507.png

___And then the non-hybrids and there are a ton. To begin, we have BailOut and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Pregnant Rollerskate (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=334). Not only is he the current Ride of the Month as of this update, he hit Expert Status while climbing and falling out of the Sierra Nevada’s each and everyday he goes to work! Next we have Op59No1’s 2004 Honds Civic manual named Op59No1’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=486), CoasterToasterxB’s 2006 Scion xB named The Shadow (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=294), Cnicolis’s 2006 Honda Civic w/ Auto named Cnicolis’ vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=475), Antrey’s 2003 Ford Focus ZX3 Manual named Antrey’s ZX3 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=293), Gflippin’s 99 Mazda Miata manual named Greg’s Miata (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=381), Right Lane Crusier’s 2002 Hyundai Elantra named Lantrific (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=369), Mr. Bill’s 2006 Honda Civic Si manual named Mr. Bill’s Civic Si (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=416), BrucePick’s 1989 Volvo 240 Wagon named Sven (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=312), Ready4Sea’s 2003 Subaru Outback manual named Ready4Sea’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=514), Rleech’s 2004 Honda Accord V6 Auto named Black Accord V6 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=503), Amann1’s 2000 Ford Ranger Auto named 2000 Ranger (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=448) and Flyer351’s 2006 Ford Mustang manual named Flyer351’s vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=263).

Brian, where did you learn to drive that Yaris ;)
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/334.png

Op59No1, some broken time frames but hopefully your tanks will hold throughout the summer. Nice job!
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/486.png

Coaster, Oh yeah, shot out of a cannon is a great description for your most recent tanks. And Expert status on top of it all
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/294.png

Cnicolis, it appears as if you are running the std. Summer/Winter cycles. Let us hope this coming winter is better then last?
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/475.png

Antrey, I take it you must like your new-used ZX3 :D
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/293.png

Gflippin, you are in a struggle with Expert status and I hope you can hold on. Don’t ever give up …
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/381.png

Sean, when I saw you punched out a 64 mpg segment a week and a half ago; I knew you had just graduated to the elite level. Keep pushing and I bet we will see a lot more of those ;)
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/369.png

Mr. Bill, did you discover CleanMPG about April 15th of this year or what :)
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/416.png

BrucePick, I know you have been battling that Volvo but looking at where you were to where you are headed, it looks pretty darn impressive to me!
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/312.png

Ready4Sea, please add tanks as they come given I have no history to comment on :(
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/514.png

Rleech, I would like to see that V6 break out one of these days. Keep working her and someday she will …
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/503.png

Amann1, I see a personal best last tank with a continuing climb. 29 is probably just around the corner!
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/448.png

Flyer351, I loved that last tanks comment “Pulled every trick in the book”. And it showed :D
http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/263.png

___Our final addition is a diesel driver named Khale driving his 2004 VW TDI Wagon manual named 2004 TDI Wagon (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=504).

Khale, I cannot wait to see future tanks from you as we only have one other TDI driver currently.

Hi Wayne, thanks for the kudos. This is the first time I've seen this thread and glad I could make the list of skilled hypermilers. I've always had good luck getting hi FE from all my vehicles but without all the information here on this site it would have taken me much longer to figure out the best way to pilot my new prius to the numbers you see. I did start out with "good" numbers, but after a couple of tankfulls and the things about the car that I picked up here they jumped up a bunch. ( A big thanks to hobbit for the technical goodies) Now if I can just figure out a way to get over this very big long hill just before my house I can pull another 5 to 10 mpg out of every tank. It just kills my average every time I go over it.

Hi All:

___A long overdue update! First, let me say researching individual members tank totals in the CleanMPG Mileage Database is a satisfying job knowing how much work is involved to record, input and especially push tanks to numbers most will never achieve. Seeing the hundreds of graphs showing improvements throughout most of last summer means members are doing their all to make sure nothing is wasted and nobody can ask much more than that. To the membership as a whole, I personally thank you for your efforts!

___Time to get down to business. In the hybrid owners category, we have a slew of members honing their skills.

___Please congratulate Diamond Larry and his 2007 Toyota Prius-II named La Forge (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=423). Larry has pushed his Prius-II about as hard as I have ever seen and the results speak for themselves. Great job in taking your Prius-II to CleanMPG’s Expert Status category. In fact, you are the first Prius-II to reach it in CleanMPG’s short history!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/423.png

___Next we have 2 Insight drivers. Please welcome and congratulate both Wayneetc and his 2000 Honda Insight named Key Lime Pi (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=700) as well as InsightGary in his 2000 Honda Insight named Little Red (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=279). Even though the Insight is possibly the most fuel efficient vehicle ever mass-produced, taking one to beyond EPA combined is no easy task and both of you have proven to be excellent drivers in my book.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/700.png

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/279.png

___Our next 2 drivers are Prius-II pilots who have come out of nowhere. Please welcome and congratulate both Zenox and his 2006 Toyota Prius-II named Peedy (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=638) as well as Dan Bryant and his 2006 Toyota Prius-II named Dan’s Prius (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=311). Again, anyone that can hold > a 60 lmpg in a Prius is really pushing and that brings a nice smile to my face! Peedy, I cannot believe it but you are still climbing! Dan, have you rechecked the log for that coming back from HF2007 tank?

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/638.png

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/311.png

___How about 7 HCH-II pilots! Please welcome and/or congratulate Trox355 and his 2007 HCH-II named Phoenix Transport (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=420), Soybean and his 2007 HCH-II named Serenity (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=669), Papamile and his 2007 HCH-II named Ozone (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=363), Ml2007hch2 and his 2007 HCH-II named Ml2007hch2’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=709), Ifs and his 2007 HCH-II named 07 Silver HCH II (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=253), Okie Mom and her 2007 HCH-II named Okie Mom’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=427), HCHCIN and his 2007 HCH-II named HCHCIN’s HCHII (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=277) and finally Msantos and his 2007 HCH-II named M Hybrid (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=161).

___With winter showing its fangs across the Continent (Msantos, living in the Great White North has got to be an absolute FE killer this time of year), I can hope all of you can hold on waiting for better conditions next spring and summer.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/427.png

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/277.png

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/161.png

___Next we have our first MMH. Please welcome and congratulate Gary C and his 2008 AWD MMH named Gary C’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=479). Gary, can you fix your first two tank uploads date of entry as it looks funny that you are achieving FE on a date that has yet to arrive?

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/479.png

___And something we have not seen in quite some time. How about 2 HiHy’s? Please welcome and/or congratulate Lottie and his 2007 HiHy named Lottie (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=595) as well as Mr. Kite and his 2007 HiHy named Kreep (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=435). Lottie, you had a rough start but it looks like you have it down now. Mr. Kite, that 41 mpg tank a few months ago was kick @$$!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/595.png

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/435.png

___To wrap up the Hybrid’s, please congratulate Firenurse and his 2007 Saturn VUE Hybrid named Red Greenline (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=360). Not only is he the first GM hybrid vehicle to be added to the CleanMPG hypermiling list, he takes a ton of ribbing from the community because of BAS. Either way, he keeps proving all of us wrong about GM tank after tank after tank. Keep up the great work and I would love to see what you could do in the upcoming PHEV VUE w/ 2-Mode!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/360.png

___Now the non-hybrids and there are a ton! Please welcome and congratulate a slew of new non-hybrid owning members that have not only learned what is needed but do what is needed every time they turn the key.

___First we have Robert Lastick and his 2000 Saturn SL named Robert Lastick’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=668). Here is a guy that takes saving fuel seriously and achieved Elite status right out of the gate. Nice job Bob!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/668.png

___To move through the rest of the non-hybrid owners quickly, here is the list in numerical FE achievement order … We have Palemelanesian and his 1996 Honda Civic named Pale Civic (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=301). Andrew, I hope you are giving clinics as many can learn a thing or two from you!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/301.png

Zerofloat and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Yaris (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=365). Do you have BailOut in your sights? Nice job on becoming an expert too!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/365.png

Pstep001 and his 2006 Toyota Corolla named Pstep001’s Vehicle (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=650). Great job with the Expert status and its nice to see a Corolla taking no prisoners!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/650.png

Gandalf and his 2006 Nissan Versa named Silver Tortoise (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=508). Gandalf, nice job with the Versa. We have so few here so let us know all about it.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/508.png

Kcty and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Ty (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=490). Nice comeback from that late June tank!

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/490.png

Voodoo22 and his 2007 Toyota Yaris named Beege (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=529)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/529.png

MnFocus and his 2004 Ford Focus ZX3 named MNFocus’s ZX3 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=519). MnFocus, I see winter has started to hit you hard. Like falling off a cliff.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/519.png

Laserdam and his 2007 Toyota Corolla named Little red (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=676)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/564.png

Walter and his 2007 Honda Fit named Black is the Color (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG(US)&viewcar=438)

http://www.cleanmpg.com/garage/images/438.png

Psy,

I had no idea of your interest in my, er, nos. Nor that you have been pestering Wayne. ;)
Anyway, I reckon that you should get the bottle dusted off in, say, March (though I don't know how often this is updated). I have about 2000 miles to go. I fill up this week.

OTOH, I wouldn't hold your breath. I don't think this month will bring me down much but even though we have mild winters and I still will be in the skilled category, I seriously doubt I can make it into expert til later. MUCH later. :-)

If I do it seems somewhat unfair I can't share the bottle with you. LOL!

Oh probably NOT worse than the rest of us!! I'm averaging 5 mpg lower now I think. I won't be surprised if the next tank is only 35. And we don't even have such severe weather as some of you.

Dan, have you rechecked the log for that coming back from HF2007 tank?

Whoo Hoo! Knighted at last!

Yeah, that 39 is correct. It was a half gallon gas bath. The FCD read 54.0 but since I counted the half gallon as gallons consumed, it tanked my tank ;).

I've suffered two gas baths over my LMPG. Factoring out the lost gas and times when other drivers had the car, my LMPG jumps from 59.7 to 61.3.

So remember guys... DON"T SPILL GAS;)

Thanks for doing this !!WRONG!

When you check your vehicle's rated fuel economy at that site, the displayed values are the adjusted 2008 numbers, not the window sticker numbers. Click on "Compare to Official EPA Window Sticker MPG" and you'll see that the correct numbers as listed under "Old EPA MPG" are:

30 city / 33 highway

link (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorCompareSideBySidePopUp.jsp?column=1&id=22128)

Use these numbers and your "skilled"/"expert" rating and "% of combined EPA" will be correct.

Larry,

You got very close I think. If I remember right you need to go mileage logs and near the top, but not at the very top on the left half there should be an "add vehicle" option that you can select. It has been awhile for me, but I remember that once I found that spot to enter it was pretty easy to get started.

Ok, I'm a newbie on this site and apparently can't post my own thread so I'm jumping on this one with a comment about ethanol (and other alternatives) and MPG. Rating our rides by "MPG" has stood us in good stead for a very long time. I want to make the argument that with alternatives coming on line we might want to think about a new standard "cost per mile" (CPM) as a way to measure fuel economy. Here in Missouri all of our gas is 10% ethanol by state law beginning 1/1/08. I have no way of knowing whether 10% ethanol is a ripoff or not because I no longer have a with/without price comparison to look at in Missouri. I had my car converted nearly 2 years ago so I can burn either gas or E85. At today's prices a mile on E85 is cheaper than a mile on gas by about 1 cent. There are other alternatives coming on line such as electric and hydrogen. They are not widely available yet but the future is coming.

There seems to be something of a predjudice against ethanol on this site. It does not take away from the food supply nor does it make food more expensive. There are two different kinds of corn involved in this equation and the cost is going up because gasoline and diesel have gone up. Those 2 fuels are predominately used to transport our food.

Over 5,000 miles logged.

Skilled: beating (> 100%) the EPA combined mileage for your car.
Expert: >125% epa
Elite: >150% epa

This is using the pre-2008, unadjusted epa ratings. The ratings are a bit different for 2008+ vehicles. I believe it's something like 110%, 135% and 160% for those, since the new ratings are lower.

Thanks, Nyt_Muves.

5,000 miles will not come for me in that car for a couple of years. I guess I will have some time with my new aero mods to boost my mpg so that I can be in the highest category.

I log 2K to 3K per month, ergo as soon as I have owned my FOCUS long enough to reach 5K miles I will be back to get on the list...

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

You need to enter your car and then log 5000 miles to earn one of the ratings. Click on mileage logs, enter your car and then after you have logged 5000 mi of "tanks" you will be rated either skilled, expert or elite. You will show up right away and you can track your progress.

Does the 5000 miles have to be in the same car or can I take the total from the two?

Haven't I already entered my car? Is there anything else that I need to do?

You'll get your tag in the mileage logs automatically.

This list here is manually updated, and way behind schedule. ;)

The last time it was updated, I was only 500 miles shy of 5000. -sigh-
