    Today , 41 deg F in Naperville , 39 in Elk Grove.
Headwind all the way ( NNE 15MPH )
    35.1 miles , fcd = 58.0 x .943 = 54.7 MPG.
    Tank is at 304.4 miles , fcd = 67.2 x .943 = 63.4 MPG.

I'm supposed to go drive a 2014 Civic 5MT today after work.
I know that Carmax wants more than other dealers ,and perhaps
the cars have a better inspection and warranty , but they want $16,000 for it.
Yeah , the car only has 5K miles , but KBB says the high end of the range is
$12,800. I have heard that CarMax doesn't negotiate on their prices.
If that is true...…….. not sure if I wanna go.

Our brand new Elantra was under $13,000 & a good wheeler-dealer could have gotten it lower.

I'm going to drive the car , but I won't buy. Maybe at 12,800 I will.

No , I did not buy the car. But it's a fantastic car.
I can tell the gearing is low. 45 MPH in 5th = 2100 RPM.
As I feared , it's difficult to keep it lower than 2500 RPM in 1st gear.
But that just means I need practice. I've only driven manual a few times
since March 2008. It was easy enough to shift at 2000 RPM in the other gears.

I REALLY like this car. But Carmax seems to think it has special , maybe "collector" status ,
and priced it accordingly. The history of the car shows that they've had this car
since mid-February 2020. They are in the business of selling cars , though. Maybe by July 9 ,
they will be whistling a different tune.

As I did with our Accent, 8% larger diameter tires would lower rpms at 60mph to 2590 & at 45mph, rpms would be 1944.

In my Honda with similar gearing I only use 1st gear for about 2 seconds from a dead stop. If my wheels are turning, I use 2nd or higher.

Sounds a bit like driving a 4x4 in low range.

It irritates me that they can't read my mind and make a car with the perfect ratios.

For the new generation Fit (newer than mine) they upgraded from 5 to 6 gear ratios. 1st is the same. 6th is the same as old 5th, with the rest spaced closer together. What was the point of that?

    There is no point.

    Tank is at 444.9 miles , fcd = 68.0 x .943 = 64.1 MPG.

I thought the GLC was a reasonable approximation. Most manuals since about 1995 or so aren't. Manufacturers' objectives changed.

I did like the ratios in the GLC. As I recall , 60 MPH was 2500 RPM
