    2020 Ford Explorer Reveal

Detroit, MI -- America’s best-selling SUV over its long and illustrious 29-year history was brought to life in Detroit this evening.

New in every way, the 2020 #Ford Explorer now provides far more efficiency with a yet to be fully revealed hybrid drivetrain in Limited trim, more space, new Infotainment, and the latest Safety technology.

The 2020 Ford Explorer lineup will arrive in standard, XLT, Limited, Limited Hybrid, ST, and Platinum trims with a price tag that starts at just $400 more than the outgoing model.

About those safety and convenience additions...

The 2020 Ford Explorer will be offered with Adaptive Radar Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and Speed Sign Recognition.

It will come standard with Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technologies including the following:

Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, which includes Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning and Dynamic Brake Support
Blind Spot with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
    Lane Keep Assst
Rearview camera with built-in lens cleaner
    Auto headlamps and high-beams

Other optional safety features include Evasive Steering Assist and Post-Impact Braking - auto braking after a collision.

    And the convenience features?

Standard FordPass Connect provides 4G LTE Wi-Fi for up to 10 devices. Subscription and extra $s required...

FordPass Connect allow owners to lock, unlock, locate, and start their vehicles from their smartphones.

An available 10.1-inch touch screen allows maps to fill the entire screen or split the space with audio information.

An available 980W, 14-speaker B&O premium audio system is also available.

SiriusXM is standard across the trim lineup while HD Radio is standard on Limited and Platinum trims.

Standard SYNC 3 includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Waze navigation.

A Qi wireless charging pad is also available.

An available PowerFold third-row seats and new E-Z entry second-row seats allow a flat rear floor with up to 87.8 cu. ft. of cargo volume.

Second-row seats allow for even easier entry and exit to the third row using just one hand. Second-row windows can be equipped with optional retractable sunshades.

The Hybrid drivetrain details are embargoed until the full reveal at the NAIAS here in Detroit next week. If it is anything like the 2020 Explorer Police Interceptor with a 3.3L V6 Hybrid drivetrain rated at 24 mpg combined revealed earlier, it is one fast as hell hybrid. I am hoping for a lot less performance and a lot more efficiency as expected.

This is the key to making the all new 2020 Ford Explorer a consideration for many of us. I will add more after the details are released.

The all-new Ford SUV is manufactured in Chicago and is scheduled to arrive this summer.

In the meantime, enjoy this clip as the headline hero pic/vid of the all-new Explorer within a high tech virtual reality using actual prototype vehicles via fantastic digital presentation put on by the Ford team this evening.

The all-new Explorer hybrid with its 318 horsepower 3.3L hybrid powertrain including an all-new 10-speed modular hybrid transmission provides SUV capability is projected to have a range of more than 500 miles between gas station fill-ups and a 25 mpg combined rating in rear-wheel-drive configuration. Hi All:

I am headed to Portland next month to get behind the wheel of the Explorer Hybrid. Kudo's? Looks good, holds a ton, and appears to be loaded with the latest infotainment... Concerns? 25 mpg or less?

25 mpg sounds a bit disappointing considering the regular (current-gen Explorer) is rated at 22 / 20 combined depending on engine choice (fwd only)

25mpg combined would be a 13% to 25% improvement over the current FWD while in a typically less efficient RWD configuration that can still tow a note worthy load.

    Hi All:

I was just approved to drive Ford's brand new halo SUV from the Press Launch in Portland to Dearborn, MI beginning on the evening of Thursday June 13th or the morning of Friday June 14th.

While 30 mpg should be an easy task, I am hoping to see 35+ from the monster 6/7-passenger SUV with the brand new 3.3L Hybridized drivetrain. If there is one thing Ford offers in abundance from their F-150 truck platform, it is huge interior and cargo volumes. TBA of course but having to reach across to a passenger door handle from the driver seat is all but impossible. See the specs following this post for more.

If only I could perform some 1 to 7-passenger rideshare in one while crossing the country to pull in comments from the general public on their own first impressions. :(
