BEV is a non-starter till my company gets chargers in the lot. I am gone, not even touching the car, about four weeks at a time, and I drive almost exactly 100mi to get there.

Gotta suck the dead Dino juice for now.

BEV batteries don''t like sitting idle for a long time either. If you are able to set up a smart charging scheme where you leave the Li-ion battery in an ideal and maintainable low-to-mid state of charge, then recharge in time for you to pick up your car for your ride home, then a BEV may work. It's a stretch.

There's nothing wrong with burning gasoline for an efficient highway commute. It's the constant start/stop and traffic in an inner city that demands something else.

And short trips, even in relatively uncongested areas. My "something else" has been a bicycle for commuting and local shopping.

That's my "something else" too. I've done ten-mile round trips with a backpack full of groceries. My store
is five miles away. It's a bit dangerous for fragile food ( tomatoes ) ,but I do it. To be honest , most of my
shopping is done by car, on the way home from work. But if I need to shop( or go to health club) , on the
weekend , that's how I do it. Yeah , I guess that sounds a little like boasting. :)

Bicycling here = taking your life in your hands. No thanks. No bike lanes and really no sidewalks. And even though I don’t really use a/c in the car, it’s just d@mn hot and humid! Might not be as bad if I lived below the local groc store...a glide back home might feel OK. Wife probably wouldn’t like the time spent, neither would I. We get little enough as it is.

I used to shop for groceries by car, when I could stop by a supermarket with no detour en route home from work or from a distant bike ride. Nowadays that doesn't work, so it's mostly by bike, with occasional exceptions.
