Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price unchanged on the week at $2.838 - this time last year it was only $2.363 so it's 20.1% (+47.5¢) dearer.
Diesel is also unchanged at $3.143. It's 24.31% (+61¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is at a 10.7% premium to regular.
E85 is also down to $2.422 - a year ago it was $2.005 so 20.8% dearer.

I got a ride to work this morning so no numbers. Tomorrow I'm back to school dropoff duty in the morning, all 5 seats occupied.

    Today(Monday) , a PR for this non-highway AM commute. 15.4 miles ,
    fcd = 94.5 x .93 = 87.88 MPG. Tank is not close to a PR , 728.1 miles
and 74.68 MPG. Last pip started to flash at 700.7 miles. I will fill up
Tuesday morning at around 750 miles.
Coincidentally, it was the warmest temp I've recorded since I started using
    Wunderground ,

For some reason , the above post did not go thru Monday.

Today , 78 degF again , wind NE 10-13. I'm not sure just how this wind
did NOT hurt my trip in. I do know that in the 15.4 miles to get here , the wind can
    come from five different directions. ;) fcd = 92.4 x .93 = 85.93 MPG.

Filled up today , at my favorite Shell ( Circle K) in Wood Dale , IL. $2.899/gallon for 87 E10.
    754.3 miles , 9.846 gallon , fcd = 80.4. 80.4 x .93 = 74.77 MPG = not so bad.
    Tank is at 4.8 miles , fcd = 99.9.

Set off home from vacation on Monday after breakfast, 64°F, headwind W14. Wife needed a pit stop half way back so called in a supermarket which involved a very large and complicated roundabout. Hit a 4 mile long queue :( to get onto 2-lane highway for last stretch - stop/start system got a very good workout. Just scraped a calculated 50mpg:
    50.1 (FCD 52.7) / 139.0

    Tank down 0.4 at 50.7 (FCD 53.4) / 357.8 / Range 335 . Guess gauge F___«|««««E . UG up 0.7 at 45.5 / DTE 256

Lost third pip @ 311 miles

The Ultragauge numbers are well down on the FCD - the long journeys with plenty of 2-cylinder mode have skewed the result.

Not driving the commute this (shorter) week - car pooling

    55.8 / 5.4 - home last night, HOT 98F
    53.7 / 11.4 - school and then work.

    Tank is at 53.4 / 484 mi.

Bummed I only got one "clean" tank this summer. Home is just outside town, work is on the near edge of town. School is in the middle of town.
I have 6 lights/stop signs on the summer route. The school route has 27 lights/stops.

Cool that your car has that feature. Seems to work well!

    Today , 59 deg F , wind WSW 0. (?!) 15.4 miles , 77.47 MPG.

Tank is at 68.2 miles , 75.98 MPG.

    I would consider a car with stop/start like Gord's ( here , it would be a Jetta 1.4T 8AT ) if I didn't have to do
a LOT of city/suburban driving. I would miss not having full control of shutting
down the ( thirsty ) ICE. But if it was mostly highway/rural , I certainly know how
to row my own gears in a manual Jetta or Civic.

    Today , 72 deg F , wind N 5-9. Back to the old commute : 35.0 miles , about 23 of it is Interstate
with 60 MPH PSL. P&G on surface streets as much as I can , which in the morning is pretty much all the time.

35.0 miles , 69.94 MPG. Tank is at 206.4 miles , 73.47 MPG. Not working next week , will drive as little as
possible , but I DO have lots of activities between today and Wednesday.

Y'all have a great holiday weekend ! Gord , do you guys have Labor Day ?

Had some trailer hauling over the weekend. Round trip was 36.4 mpg / 16 mi.

That drops the tank down from 53.4 to 52.7 / 558 mi, below 1/4 now.

But compared to owning the mandatory Cowboy Cadillac (F-150) and driving it all year round , your way is MUCH smarter , Andrew.
Today , no driving. Rode the Giant 17 miles in 85-90 deg F , had lunch with Amy , rode 17 miles back home in the hotter part of the day.
Yeah , I'm pretty limp now. Time to hydrate and vegetate. :)
