Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price has gone up another 0.9¢ since last week to $2.865 - this time last year it was only $2.263 so it's 26.6% (+60.2¢) dearer.
Diesel is up a touch (+0.4¢) at $3.169. It's 29.6% (+72.3¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is at a 10.6% premium to regular.
E85 is up +0.7¢ to $2.414 - a year ago it was still below $2 at $1.973 so 22.4% dearer.

    Thanks , Gord. Today , 66 deg F , wind ENE 2-3. 15.4 miles , 77.93 MPG.

Tank is at 169.7 miles , 72.45 MPG.

Diesel fuel here ( Chicago suburbs ) seems to be a few cents cheaper than E10 87.

A good time to buy a Cruze 1.6 turbodiesel ? Or for those who can swing it , a 328d ?

After doing a 1000 mile highway trip , I think about a diesel. Sitting in traffic with a diesel engine
    running ? No , thanks. But I guess most modern diesels have START/STOP , don't they ?

    No doubt!!

Thanks Gord! It was my fault for letting it sit idle for that long.
Andrew, yes this is my third in 7 years.

Took the kids to camp in NW Arkansas so we took the Sonata. Manly Posted SL (70 MPH) on the interstate with AC and gear select on 6th so that the Auto would not down shift on minor hills. All in all it was 450+ miles at 36.6 MPG or so. Not great, but pretty good for a full size car with hilly to small mountains (or really big hills, depends on how you want to classify them :p) in NW Arkansas.

You can lock it in top gear, Jason ? That's pretty nice. I'm not very familiar with modern automatics ,
but I know you couldn't do that with my 08 Civic. If I wanted to avoid downshifts , I would slow down.
Which I did manually on just about every hill from Chicago to Phoenix.

I've had a couple rental HyunKias and they were pretty good about respecting the manual shifter selection, if you don't punch the right foot pedal.

The '14 Odyssey is better about holding top gear than the earlier Hondas.

Thanks , Andrew. I'm trying. Some days my focus isn't there. The first few days
after my Nashville (highway) trip , my reflexes were off.

    Concentration + commitment = results.

Nice tank going there Edwin. And yes the Hyundai's and Kia's come with the Autostick, which mean you can select which gear you want, as long as the computer is fine with it. you can get to 6 gear at about 40 MPH no earlier, but it will hold it down to about 35 if you light on the pedal. The auto has some issue with holding on to lower gear for longer than it needs to when cresting hills or extended descents.

    Today , 67 deg F , wind NW 0-1. That's what wunderground said.

    15.4 miles , 88.6 x .93 = 82.40 MPG.

Tank is at 265.0 miles , 74.68 MPG.

I normally don't report my trips going home after work , but the last few days have been pretty good.

Averaged over 80 MPG for Tuesday and Wednesday (63.0 miles) ,

which will definitely help this tank.
