Welcome back to the grind :D

The national average gas price has dropped 4.8¢ since last week to $2.847 - this time last year it was only $2.265 so it's 25.7% (+58.2¢) dearer.
Diesel is down 2¢ at $3.166. It's 28.9% (+71¢) more expensive than this time last year. Diesel is at an increasing 11.2% premium to regular.
E85 is also down to $2.391 - a year ago it was below $2 at $1.973 so 21.2% dearer.

After a great start to this tank it was back to normal last night - slow getting to motorway, 2UP, hot 84°F, headwind E7:
    46.9 / 22.4

Great run this morning even with detour of traffic light section, 2UP, 57°F, tail/crosswind NE4:
    52.8 / 23.0

    Tank down 1.9 at 52.8 (FCD 55.6) / 129.6 / Range 585 . Guess gauge F««««|««««E . UG up 0.1 at 50.2 / DTE 548

Nice stuff here in the heat of summer. In winter the homeward trip is usually better because the temperature is higher. Texas summer means even the mornings are fully warm (80 this morning) so the slight downhill to work wins out.

    58.6 / 5.3 - home
    71.2 / 5.1 - work

    Tank up a tick to 55.1 / 526 mi.

Very warm again (for the UK ) going home last night, 81°F, headwind E9, auto stop/start worked the earliest ever at first junction 100 yards from work car park  and even though it was busy ended up with reasonable numbers. The only time I tend to see over 50 on the FCD going home is on a Friday lunchtime or if I'm on my own:
    49.0 (FCD 51.6 :D) / 22.4

Quick change then out for an evening meal at a pub, 3UP, passengers insisted on A/C blasting :p so it hit FE going even though it's net downhill (-110ft), 81°F, headwind E9:
    44.1 / 6.3 - poor
Managed to get away with just windows open going home ;) as it had cooled a bit to 75°F, tailwind E10:
    51.0 / 6.3

Misty this morning so needed lights on, had to detour traffic light section again, 2UP, 52°F, crosswind N4:
    50.5 / 23.0

    Tank down 1.3 at 51.5 (FCD 54.2) / 187.6 / Range 520 . Guess gauge F_«««|««««E . UG down 0.9 at 49.2 / DTE 477

Lost first pip @ 170 miles

I've got a reasonable heat tolerance, and what I like to call "thermal inertia". I can go from my cool office into a hot car and drive (windows down) for 20 minutes or so before the heat soaks in and catches up to me. Same thing in reverse for winter. My wife on the other hand, can't be 10 seconds in a hot car before melting.

    55.0 / 5.3 - home last night, 97F, no AC
    70.3 / 5.2 - work this morning, 78F

    Tank is up 0.2 to 55.3 / 536 mi

98F going home, but it's switched over to true summer "dry heat" so more tolerable than last week's 94.

    52.2 / 5.3 - home
    56.9 / 2.1 - take a kid to youth group
    49.1 / 2.1 - back home
69.9 / 5.1 - work this morning. GRRR so close!

Tank is steady at 55.3 / 551 mi.

Snap! Andrew :D is it even 10 seconds!!

Went for an evening bike ride: 34.7 miles @ 19mph

Another great run this morning, 2UP, 57°F, crosswind N4:

Went motorway route even though very busy as other detours weren't an option. Did a triple down and up the junction trick followed by my usual one to get past some of the queue, hotter 81°F, head/crosswind NE8:
    45.9 / 22.6

Yet another great run this morning, 2UP, 56°F, crosswind N6:
    52.2 / 22.5

    Tank down 0.3 at 50.7 (FCD 53.4) / 278.2 / Range 415 . Guess gauge F__««|««««E . UG up 0.1 at 49.1 / DTE 386

Rode the bikes every day from Monday thru Friday , 135 miles total. Didn't drive much at all , and when I did it was around 75 MPG.

Sat morning , drove to Nashville , two adults plus supplies. 489 miles , 58.1 MPG. I aimed for 60-65 MPH min speeds (uphill) and 75+MPG downhill.
By late morning , temperature was in the 90's. We used A/C all the way.

Sunday morning, headed back to Chicago. Around 610 miles ( don't ask why ) , but slightly lower speeds and tail wind. 59.5 MPG.

MPG was calculated by multiplying fcd x 0.93. I did fill up in Portland Tennessee with Shell 87 E10 for $2.559/gallon ,
about $.40-.50 less than back home.
