2006 Triangle check engine hybrid system symbol

    They did! If your battery cooling fan isn't working, that would be a huge contributor to the battery failure. I suspect more likely it does work, but you never noticed? It runs slowly (i.e., almost silently) when the battery is warm, faster when it's uncomfortably hot, and not at all when it's cool.

    I tend not to worry much about battery temperature until it exceeds about 100°F, but not panic until it approaches 45°C. Are those reasonable guidelines? Without refrigeration, the durn thing seems to want to run at least 20°F above ambient on sufficiently long trips, even under near-ideal conditions. A few forced downhill stops in close succession will drive it higher rapidly! (They love to put stop signs and stoplights at the bottoms of hills hereabouts ... )

    150A peak discharge?!! I never see anything near that (via ScanGauge). I do occasionally see the 90A charging , but try to avoid that situation. Mine's a 2011 (3rd generation).

    The compressor seems to draw around 2.5-3A when maintaining tolerable temperature; much more initially, as you say.

    The cooling system is instrumented. If the cooling fan isn't working properly, the car will code.

    40-45°C+ are normal operating temperatures for 9 months out of the year here in Phx. Your guidelines should be fine. The cells themselves get very efficient around 100-110°F, but they start to take a nosedive above that.

    When I replace a battery, the test drive includes stabbing the throttle to the floor at about 10mph. This produces a peak momentary current of above 140A, typically in the vicinity of 150A with a handful of readings going to 160A. Sustained currents are typically in the 110-120A range if full throttle is maintained.

    Not sure about Gen3. I try to avoid them. I've only connected to a couple.

    1)So the BP vent has a powered fan-but my pitiful ears don't hear it
    2) And extracting free power by recharging -isn't quite FREE- since it eventually cooks the battery.Well my son -who drives it-rarely does this-he is a typical On Off driver-brake or gas-rarely glides
    3) S Keith-so you did test it-Hotter than Hell Phoenix-and the AC does protect BP
    4) Guess I will spring for the repair

    Huge aside-when folks say "it isn't the heat it is the humidity"
    They Obviously have never been in Phoenix Tuscon Las Vegas in the summer -those 3 cities --are MUCH worse than very humid hot New Orleans
    They literally cook you from the inside-
    you inhale that 110-115 degree air-and literally feel Hotter- hotter than 95 degrees with high humidity(but high at that temp-is maybe 70%)
    When we used to fly into Phoenix then rent a car to go the Flagstaff
    We could hardly wait to get 100 miles N of Phoenix-maybe 4000 ft altitude-cooler

    And once we ended up in Las Vegas-late July
    Best thing we saw in Las Vegas was Las Vegas in our rear view mirror

    And we once drove to Tuscon-to see aviation museum(great B-58 SR71 ALL 100 series)-July-MISERABLE heat

    Thanks all-guess I will have the AC fixed
