    Hi All:

    The September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales results begin with the Top 10.

    Items of Note: RAM Pickups moved back ahead of the RAV4 and the Rogue is picking off where it left off a few months before with a strong September showing. The Corolla which fell out of the Top 10 last month moved back into the 8th spot in September while the Equinox fell off of the Top 10 last month.

    GM U.S. September 2017 Sales Up 11.9% with 279,397 Vehicles Sold

    GM September 2017 U.S. Sales Overview

    GM reported it sold 279,397 vehicles in September, up 11.1 percent over the 249,795 sold in September of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis with 26 selling days in September of 2016 and 25 in September of 2016, GM’s September sales results were still up a strong 7.5 percent.

    Hurricane Harvey and Irma are helping spur new GM vehicle sales.

    YTD sales of 2,195,502 are down 0.8 percent from the 2,212,397 sold through the same period of 2016.

    The Chevrolet brand sales were up 17.4 percent and GMC up 9.4 percent. Crossover and Pickup truck sales were up 43 and 10 percent respectively.

    Retail sales accounted for approximately 80 percent of sales, up 8 percent for GM’s best September retail performance since 2007. This detail will help GM owners going forward with higher residuals which is a very good thing! Year to date, GM has the lowest daily rental mix of any full-line automaker at 8.7 percent of total sales. GM remains committed to decrease daily rental sales by 50,000 units in 2017.

    GM’s September incentive spending as a percent of ATP was 14.6 percent.

    Chevrolet achieved its best retail September since 2004.

    Silverado sales of 55,236 were up 21.7 percent over the 45,380 sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 418,590 were down 1.6 percent below the 425,556 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Although the Equinox fell out of the Top 10 in September, sales were still extremely strong and the best September in the model’s history. September saw 27,512 sold, up 80.3 percent over the 15,261 sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 212,735 were up 22.4 percent over the 173,736 sold during the same period of 2016.

    The Chevrolet Bolt BEV (2,632 sold) and Volt (1,453 sold) achieved a record combined 4,085 vehicles sold.


    GM Canada September 2017 Sales Up 7.0% with 27,237 Vehicles Sold

    GM Canada achieved September 2017 sales of 27,237, up 7.0 percent above the 25,466 sold in September of 2016.

    YTD, the brand achieved sales of 232,566 vehicles, up 16.6 percent over the 199,470 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Chevrolet September sales were up 8.7 percent, the best result since 2006. YTD sales were up an even more impressive 15.9 percent.

    GMC September sales were up 16.3 percent, the best result since 1999. YTD sales were up 22.1 percent.

    Cadillac September sales were up 18.8 percent, the best result in history. YTD sales were up 16.9 percent.

    Sept. U.S Auto Manufacturers Sales Items of Note: Subaru fell behind Hyundai despite a positive sales month. The AWD brand is closing in on the first monthly decline in years and I am hearing on the radio $5k off on some models in San Diego to help October sales going forward.

    Mercedes-Benz edged out VW which in turn moved ahead of BMW for 10th, 11th, and 12th spot respectively.

    The big news with Toyota is the fact that the RAV4 Hybrid outsold the Prius for the first time in history. Look at those September Hybrid sales numbers! The RAV4 Hybrid is now the number one selling Toyota Hybrid in the country. See the Ford sales report for the top selling U.S. Hybrid vehicle in September.

    The Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200 will soon be rolling off the list given their demise. Ram trucks had another sales hiccup marking this the third month of sales declines in a row.

    While the September results were positive on a raw volume basis, the DSR showed negative sales results. The first in a very long time. The Impreza and CrossTrek continue to impress.

    Along with the strong Forte', it was great to see the Optima sales pickup a touch. Hopefully a 10k unit month is not that far off as the last time that model crossed the 10k barrier was June.

    Ioniq continues to hold above 1,100 units while the Elantra and Sonata rental fleet reduction program continues to pull theirs and the brands monthly sales down sharply. Stiff competition from the all-new 2018 Camry and Accord are not in the Sonata's favor going forward.

    Mercedes-Benz September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Overview

    Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) reported September sales of 32,337 vehicles in September, down 2.2 percent from the 33,075 sold in September of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis with 26 selling days in September of 2016 vs. 25 in September of 2016, sales were down 6.0 percent.

    Mercedes-Benz on its own achieved September sales of 29,008 vehicles, down 1.7 percent below the 29,500 sold in September of 2016.

    Sprinter Work Vans continue to power forward as they achieved their best-ever September sales with 3,088 vehicles, up 4.0 percent over the 2,970 sold in September of 2016.

    Mercedes-Benz volume leader in September was the C-Class (6,194 sold, down 6.2 percent) whereas the highlight was the GLE with September sales of 4,583 vehicles, up 11.0 percent over the 4,127 old in September of 2016.

    BMW September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Overview

    BMW (BMW and Mini combined) achieved September sales of 29,307 vehicles, down 0.4 percent below the 29,413 sold in September of 2106. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, 26 selling days in September of 2016 vs. 25 in September of 2016, sales were down 4.2 percent.

    YTD sales of 254,962 vehicles was down 5.2 percent over the 269,044 sold through the same period of 2016.

    BMW vehicles on their own achieved sales of 25,571, up 0.7 percent over the 25,389 vehicles sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 220,175 vehicles was down 4.3 percent below the 230,133 sold through the same period of 2016.

    In September, MINI reported it sold 3,736 vehicles, a decrease of 7.2 percent from the 4,024 sold in September of 2016. Year-to-date, MINI reported it sold 34,787 vehicles, a decrease of 10.6 percent from 38,911 vehicles sold during the same period of 2016.

    YTD, BMW’s PHEV and BEV vehicles achieved sales of 13,533 vehicles, up 14.9 percent and accounted for 5.3 percent of total BMW Group sales in the U.S. to date. The electrified models include the slow selling i3 BEV and i8 PHEV, BMW 330e, 530e, 740e and the X5 xDrive 40e. MINI offers the MINI Countryman PHEV.

    The brands highlight was its X5 with September sales of 3,975 vehicles, up 6.0 percent over the 3,749 sold in August of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, sales were up 2.0 percent. YTD sales of 34,199 were up 4.2 percent over the 32,818 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Mazda September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Overview

    Mazda reported it sold 25,738 vehicles in September, up 3.4 percent over the 24,889 sold in September of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, 26 selling days in September 2017 versus 25 days in September 2016, sales were off 0.6 percent.

    YTD sales of 220,297 vehicles was down 1.8 percent below the 224,267 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Mazda’s CUVs lineup including the CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9 achieved September sales of 15,743 vehicles, up 23.6 percent. According to Mazda’s sales report, 62.2 percent of those CUVs sold were equipped with the brands i-ACTIV AWD system.

    The Mazda CX-5 achieved its best monthly sales result since it was released to the public in February of 2012. September sales of 12,440 vehicles was up 32.6 percent over the 9,385 sold in September of 2106. YTD sales of 92,550 was up 12.2 percent over the 82,439 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Audi's September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales and Overall Results

    Audi of America reported September U.S. sales of 19,308 vehicles, up 9.6 percent over the 17,617 sold in September of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, 26 selling days in September of 2017 vs. 25 in September of 2016, sales were up 5.4 percent. The Brand of Four Rings is just spitting distance from the magic 20k monthly sales mark.

    September was the 81st straight record sales month for Audi of America. The previous September record was set last year with 17,617 vehicles sold.

    YTD sales of 160,914 was up 5.7 percent over the 152,179 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Audi SUV sales overall grew more than 19 percent in September and made up 52 percent of the brands sales mix.

    Ever increasing demand for Audi SUVs continue unabated. The new Q5 and the full size Q7 achieved eye opening percentage increases.

    The Q7 achieved September sales of 3,538 vehicles, up 42.9 percent over the 2,475 sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 26,778 was up 22.4 percent over the 21,885 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Jaguar Land Rover September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Overview

    Jaguar Land Rover reported September 2017 U.S. sales of 9,703 vehicles, up 17 percent over the 8,299 vehicles it sold in September 2016. YTD sales of both the Jaguar and Land Rover brands of 84,709 are up 13.3 percent over the 74,740 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Jaguar on its own achieved sales of 3,296 vehicles, up 24 percent over the 2,662 vehicles sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 30,228 vehicles was up 48.5 percent over the 20,349 sales sold through the same period of 2016.

    Land Rover on its own achieved sales of 6,407 vehicles, up 14 percent over the 5,637 sold in September 2016. September was the best September sales in the history of the brand in the U.S. YTD, Land Rover sales of 54,481, in the U.S. is up 0.2 percent over the 54,391 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Jaguar Land Rover September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Highlights

    The 2018 Range Rover Velar in its first full month of sales in the U.S., achieved sales of 1,244 vehicles.

    The all-new 2018 Range Rover Velar mid-size SUV starts at $50,895 including the $995 D&H Charge. Like the Range Rover Sport and Jaguar XE, the Velar can be equipped with 2 gas engine options and a turbo diesel engine, all mated to a smooth-shifting 8-speed AT and AWD.

    The award-winning Jaguar F-PACE had another strong month, increasing to 1,356 sales, an increase of 68 percent from 809 in September 2016. In September, the Jaguar F-PACE was again the top selling vehicle for Jaguar Land Rover in the U.S. as it was in August.

    The upcoming Jaguar E-PACE, a five-passenger compact AWD SUV. It will arrive with either a 246 or 296 hp I4 gas engine mated to a ZF 9-speed AT. The E-PACE goes on sale in December of 2018 and will be start at $39,995 incl. the $995 D&H charge.


    In July, the all-new Jaguar E-PACE set an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORD title during its world premiere. The compact performance SUV leapt into the record books with a 50-foot-long jump, complete with a 270-degree corkscrew-like ‘barrel roll’.

    Demonstrating the agility, precision and performance of the newest Jaguar SUV, the feat was the final test for E-PACE after 25 months of work across four continents to test extreme durability and that it lived up to the Jaguar ‘Art of Performance’ philosophy.

    The Jaguar E-PACE is a five-seat, compact SUV that packs the design and performance of a Jaguar sports car into a practical and connected all-wheel drive vehicle.

    All new Jaguar models come standard with Jaguar EliteCare, a class-leading ownership package, including five-years or 60,000-mile limited warranty, complimentary scheduled maintenance coverage, roadside assistance and Jaguar InControl Remote & Protect.

    Mitsubishi U.S. September 2017 Sales Up 17.2% with 8,430 Vehicles Sold

    Mitsubishi September 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Overview

    Mitsubishi reported September 2017 sales of 8,430, up 17.2 percent over the 7,191 sold in September 2016 making it Mitsubishi's best September sales in ten years.

    YTD sales of 79,195 vehicles, up 6.5 percent over the 74,351 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Leading the way, Outlander posted its best September sales ever with 2,895 vehicles sold, up 50.4 percent over the 1,925 vehicles sold in September of 2016.

    The volume leader was Outlander Sport, with sales of 3,140, up 22.2 percent over the 2,570 sold in September 2016.

    The world's first PHEV CUV and the best-selling PHEV in Europe is coming to America. The all-new 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV will arrive in dealerships in December. It will arrive with a starting MSRP of just $34,595.

    It includes an efficient 2.0L I4 and two high-performance electric motors, and All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system. The Outlander PHEV arrives with DC Fast Charging capability.

    The vehicle's 12kWh Li-Ion traction battery (estimated 10 kWh usable allowing 25 miles of all-electric range) can be charged with a standard Level1 120V outlet (full charge from flat in less than eight hours), a public or residential Level2 240V (full charge in less than four hours) charging station. The Outlander PHEV also comes standard with DC Fast Charging capability, the only Plug-in Hybrid in the market with it. The vehicle will charge from flat to 80 percent capacity in as little as 25 minutes. Charging status is displayed on the instrument panel.

    Volvo reported it sold 7,990 vehicles in September, up 40.7 percent over the 5,615 sold in September 2016.

    YTD the company sold 56,966 venicles, down 2.7 percent below the 58,532 sold through the same period of 2016.

    In September, Porsche sold 5,059 vehicles, up 12.9 percent over the 4,479 sold in September of 2016.

    YTD sales of 41,237 were up 2.5 percent over the 40,246 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Porsche Panamera achieved September sales of 835 vehicles, up 134.6 percent over the 356 sold in September of 2016. YTD sales of 4,903 up 46.8 percent over the 3,341 sold through the same period of 2016.

    In September, Ford sold 222,248 vehicles, up 8.7 percent over the 204,447 sold in September of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, 26 selling days in September of 2017 vs. 25 in September of 2016, sales were up 4.5 percent.

    YTD sales of 1,933,459 were down 2.8 percent below the 1,988,456 vehicles sold thorugh the same period of 2016.

    The Ford F-Series achieved September sales of 82,302 pickups, up 21.4 percent over the 67,809 sold in September of 2106. YTD sales of 658,636 were up 10.6 percent over the 595,656 sold through the same period of 2016.

    On the hybrid front, the Fusion Hybrid outsold both the Prius and the RAV4 Hybrid to become the #1 selling Hybrid in the U.S. for the 4th of 9 months in 2017.
