    Top 18 U.S. August Auto Industry Manufacturers sales items of note: Subaru moved up yet another spot to #7 ahead of both Kia and Hyundai and appears to have placed both in the rear view for good. Hyundai and Kia swapped sales spots in August as well. VW moved ahead of Mercedes-Benz too occupy the 10th spot.

    BillLin MASS: 2018 Bolt EV and 2017 Prime

    Nice color coding! Reminds me of some neat conditional formatting that can be done in Excel for example. That's what I'll be toying with this weekend in my home energy spreadsheet. (PV solar production, net meter readings, heating/cooling degree days, general usage, etc.)

    U.S. Automobile Aug. 2017 vs. Aug. 2016 Market Share results

    August 2017 Market Share items of note: GM gained 1.7 percent, Toyota gained 1.4 percent, FCA was down 1.1 percent, Nissan was down 0.9 percent, and Hyundai was down 1.1 percent vs. August of 2016.

    August revealed another down sales month as this was the third consecutive month of lower U.S. auto sales. August was the sixth of eight with lower sales in 2017. How fast vehicle replacements to cover Hurricane Harvey devastation will move these results upward remain to be seen.

    2017 U.S. Monthly Auto Industry Sales Totals

    January 2017 (+.01 million): 1.14 million vs 1.13 million sold in January of 2016
    February 2017 (-.01 million): 1.32 million vs 1.33 million sold in February of 2016
    March 2017 (-.05 million): 1.54 million vs 1.59 million sold in March of 2016
    April 2017 (-.06 million): 1.44 million vs. 1.50 million sold in April of 2016

    May 2017 (+.06 million): 1.52 million vs. 1.46 million sold in May of 2016
    June 2017 (-.06 million): 1.46 million vs. 1.51 million sold in June of 2016
    July 2017 (-.11 million): 1.41 million vs. 1.52 million sold in July of 2016
    August 2017 (-.04 million): 1.47 million vs 1.51 million sold in August of 2016


    August 2017 U.S. Automotive industry sales of 1.47 million was down 2.6 percent vs. the 1.51 million sold in August of 2016. On a Daily Selling Rate (DSR) basis, August sales were off 6.3 percent given there were 27 selling days in August of 2017 vs. 26 in August of 2016.

    August 2017 sales YTD of 11.31 million was down 2.7 percent from the 11.62 million sold through August of 2016 YTD. There were 204 selling days in both 2017 and 2016.

    BillLin MASS: 2018 Bolt EV and 2017 Prime

    I looked at the top volume of sales in a different way. The result wasn't what I expected. It seems CUV/SUV sales increased at the expense of pickup sales. I'm just glad people aren't necessarily moving from cars to CUV/SUVs.

    [​IMG] GM U.S. August 2017 Sales up 7.5% with 275,552 Vehicles Sold

    GM reported it sold 275,552 vehicles in August, up 7.5 percent over the 256,429 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 1,916,105 is down 2.4 percent below the 1,962,602 sold through the same period of 2016.

    GM stated Retail sales were up 4 percent.

    U.S. Commercial fleet deliveries were up 19 percent, and the company has gained domestic Commercial market share for 13 consecutive months. Total fleet sales were up 24 percent. This appears to be a reversal of the company's focus to reduce fleet sales over the past two years. Year to date, GM has the lowest daily rental mix of any full-line automaker at about 8 percent of total sales. GM remains on track to decrease daily rental sales by 50,000 units in 2017.

    Chevrolet experienced its best August since 2004 and best August crossover month ever.

    Equinox sales were up 67 percent.

    The Chevrolet Bolt had its strongest sales in its short history with 2,052 vehicles sold/delivered.

    GM’s U.S. inventory levels are down about 85,000 vehicles from the end of June to about 893,000 vehicles.

    The company is on track to meet its inventory target, which is to end the year with stocks at or below last year’s level of about 850,000 vehicles, with fewer cars and more trucks, crossovers and utilities in the mix.

    GM Canada August 2017 Sales Up 28.5% with 22,547 Vehicles Sold

    GM (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac) Canada achieved August 2017 sales of 28,981, up an extremely strong 28.5 percent above the 22,547 sold in August of 2016.It was GM Canada’s best August since 2008. Adding to the strong result, GM Canada is now the number one auto manufacturer surpassing the perennial leading Ford by 1,692 vehicles in August.

    Retail sales of 24,872 were up 36.1 percent over August of 2016’s results and was the best single month result since September 2008.

    YTD, the brand achieved sales of 205,329 vehicles, up 18.0 percent over the 174,004 sold through the same period of 2016.

    GM Canada August Sales Highlights

    Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups accounted for 13,486 of the 28,981 vehicle sales, up 52.0 percent over the 8,871 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 82,801 were up 26.1 percent over the 65,664 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Mazda's August 2017 U.S. Auto Sales Highlights and Overall Results.

    Mazda reported it sold 25,846 vehicles in August, down 1.0 percent versus the 26,109 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 194,559 vehicles were down 2.4 percent from the 199,378 sold through the same period in 2016.

    Mazda August Highlights

    The CX-5 remains hot with its fifth record-breaking month in a row. 11,631 vehicles were sold in August, up 9.6 percent over the 10,612 sold in August of last year. YTD sales of 80,110 are up a just as strong 9.7 percent over the 73,054 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Total sales of Mazda’s CX crossover SUV line, including the CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9, were up 6.5 percent in August, with 14,868 vehicles sold.

    Mazda‘s predictive i-ACTIV All-Wheel Drive remains a popular choice among customers purchasing crossover SUVs, with 64.3 percent of CX-line vehicles sold in August being equipped with the AWD option.

    Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) sold in 29,183 vehicles in August, down 8.5 percent below the 31,909 sold during August of 2016. YTD sales of 237,775 are off just 3.1 percent form the 245,329 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Mercedes-Benz on its own reported August sales of 25,373 vehicles, down 10.7 percent from the 28,404 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 213,242 vehicles was down 2.9 percent from the 219,704 sold through the same period of 2016.

    Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans reported best-ever August sales with 3,581 units and smart reported 229 vehicles.

    Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in August included the C-Class, GLC and GLE model lines. None of which achieved a positive result vs. their sales in August of 2016.

    BMW Group U.S. August 2017 Sales

    The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported August sales of 28,001 vehicles, down 8.2 percent from the 30,500 vehicles sold in August of 2016. YTD, BMW Group sales of 225,655 vehicles was down 5.8 percent v. the 239,631 sold during the same period of 2016.

    Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 7.7 percent in August for a total of 23,553 compared to 25,531 vehicles sold in August 2016. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is down 5 percent in the U.S. on sales of 194,604 vehicles compared to 204,744 sold in the first eight months of 2016.

    MINI USA reported 4,448 vehicles sold, a decrease of 10.5 percent from the 4,969 sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA reported a total of 31,051 vehicles sold, a decrease of 11.0 percent from 34,887 vehicles sold in the first eight months of 2016.

    Notable vehicle sales in August include the BMW 4 and 5 Series, which both showed strong gains for the second straight month, and the BMW X1. The BMW 4 Series increased 49.3 percent with 3,412 vehicles sold, while the BMW 5 Series which increased 37.6 percent with 3,587 vehicles sold. The BMW X1 increased 39 percent with 2,002 vehicles sold.

    BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales

    Sales of BMW Group electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles increased 9.2 percent to 11,672 through August 2017, accounting for 5.2 percent of total BMW brand sales in the U.S. Currently, BMW offers six electrified vehicle models in the U.S., including the BMW i3 and BMW i8, as well as the BMW i Performance models: BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW 740e and the BMW X5 xDrive 40e. MINI offers the MINI Countryman plug-inhybrid electric vehicle, which launched in June 2017.

    Audi U.S. August 2017 Sales

    Audi of America reported August sales of 19,811 vehicles, up 2.8 percent over the 19,264 sold in August of 2016. The August results were the 80th consecutive record sales month for the iconic brand. YTD sales of 141,606 are up 5.2 percent over the 134,562 sold through the same period of 2016.

    The Q5 achieved sales of 4,767, up 7.9 percent over the 4,419 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 34,630 were up 10.9 percent over the 31,238 sold through the same period of 2016.

    August Q7 sales of 3,174 was up 35.2 percent over the 2,347 sold in August of 2016. YTD sales of 23,240 was up 19.7 percent over the 19,410 sold through the same period of 2016.
