    Hi Jay:

I picked up a Niro brochure from a somewhat local Kia dealership three nights ago.

Here is the answer to your ECO-DAS question. The Touring Launch and Touring edition with the 8" display and embedded NAVI addition will include it. I am pretty sure anyway. Remember the Touring with those big 18" alloys is not the most efficient by a ways.

I have a lot more to add from that visit. Maybe in a few hours. Early March they will reach IL according to this dealer.

Thanks for the confirmation, Wayne. I think that ECO-DAS would enable a hybrid to see the upcoming mountain pass and begin charging the battery to maximum by the time the driver reaches the base of the hill. Then it could ration electric boost all the way to the top to more fully utilize the hybrid capability. In contrast, without ECO-DAS, the charging system would keep the battery charge at midpoint at the base of the pass and run out of poop long before the peak. I think ECO-DAS could be a big FE improvement in certain environments. That's my speculation anyway.

There are quite a number of European owners already driving their Ioniqs at the Ioniq forum I visit, but practically nobody bought the top-level trim that has the ECO-DAS feature. I haven't been able to question anybody about how it really works.

    HI All:

A quick visit to Liberty Kia in Libertyville, IL so my mom can check out the new 2017 Niro as a replacement for her 2013 Prius v.

I am in a 2017 RAV4 AWD Hybrid this week so...

She checked out the exterior, and the interior of this Static Korean Spec Touring Trim Niro. It could not be booted for some reason so no adjustment of the drivers seats was afforded.

She was mostly interested if a walker for her sister could fit both sideways with the rear seats in their upright position and lengthwise with the the 60 fold down seat folded. It did not fit widthwise but easily fit lengthwise.

While in there, this Korean spec Niro did have a 12V Aux battery in the lower right rear compartment of the hatch. I am not sure if this little 12V will be included in the U.S. production models or not?

Does the label on that "aux battery" say "410CCA" ?

    It wouldn't surprise me. :)

In retrospect, that's perfect for a static model that won't be driven often and people are leaving doors/cabin lights on.

Maybe despite the huge 12V battery, the dealership didn't pay enough attention to keep the 12V sufficiently charged? :D

    Hi Carcus:

It does indeed. It is a 410 CCA 12V battery. Why such a large battery when it is not connected to an actual starter motor? Booting and running lights for a while would require a smaller 12V.

    Hi Wayne,
    You said
"She was mostly interested if a walker could fit both sideways with the rear seats in their upright position and lengthwise with the thr 60 fold down seat folded. It did not fit width wise but easily fit lengthwise."

Would the walker fit sideways in her Prius V?

    Hi Dave:

Yes, this walker fits both sideways and lengthwise when laid down in the back of her Prius v with the seats up. The handles do ride up on the interior panel like it does in the 4th gen Prius as shown below. It also fit in the 4th gen Prius both width and lengthwise although when widthwise, the handles had to go down and the front was within an inch of the rear hatch window. Lengthwise, it fit but there was a thinner opening through the 60 fold down seat than the Niro. The 4th gen Prius' 2 to 3 inch lip that my mom had to lift the wheels over at the back seat fulcrum made the std. Prius liftback a non-starter.

The inventory listing is live, too:

No word on if the cars are actually sitting on the lot or merely allocated, though.
They do list a few FE's in the NYC area - an awesome opportunity in light of the capability Wayne demonstrated as well as the CleanPass HOV eligibility.

    Hi All:

A bit of self aggrandizement here... A few pics of the Guinness World Record setting Niro on the showroom floor at the 2017 NAIAS in Detroit. It may also be displayed at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show later this month.

    Hi All:

The Niro's are arriving at dealerships now. Jesse gave me a call and said a local Kia dealer - Grieco Kia of Johnston Rhode Island - has them on their lot as of last night. That means many more have them as well.

Cars dot com shows 15 available within 100 miles of me. Closest is 22 miles away.

The app does not list the Niro as a model, but using key word Niro brought up the list amongst all Kia models.

Sadly, or maybe luckily, I cannot act on my BUY impulse till my wife's C-Max lease ends in November. :D

Just checked the inventory listing and there are none within 90 miles of Chicago so that's something Niro has in common with the Prius Prime. Problem is the Superbowl commercial will be long forgotten by the time they get the Niro to the dealers. Here's a recent review on the Niro.
