    Hi All:

A FB friend, Jeff Moody, who also drives a 13 Sonata Hybrid just purchased his son a 17 Elantra SE with the Popular and Tech pkg. - retails for $21,085 plus TTL - for just over $18k tonight.

    A great purchase imho! :)

Thank you... I was thinking that it is a car the whole family could use but especially nice if we don't.

Xcel, I love your car reviews, along with how thorough you are. I liked this car so much I am now a happy owner of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra SE base model, 6 speed! Got for $15k out the door with tax and everything included :). Thank you for showing what this great car can do. Can't wait to rack up the miles on this!

Been watching the instant mpg and I've been able to accelerate past 60mph while getting 50mpg+ iMPG with slow acceleration. This car is awesome! EPA mpg ratings for this car, I think are laughable. Even with the cold here, I don't see how it's possible to get less than 40mpg in this car. Even with going above 65 mph going uphill. Now if only I can add heated seats and change the trip a/b from tracking avg speed to avg mpg instead, like the Prius... Haven't started hypermiling it too aggressively yet as I'm babying her until after the break-in period 1,000-1500? But basics of course.

    Hyundai Sells 3 Millionth Elantra!

Hyundai marked its 3-millionth Elantra sold in the U.S. by honoring the achievement of one brave individual in Baytown, Texas, a city near Houston severely impacted by flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

Henry Rogers, Paramedic Field Supervisor for Acadian Ambulance, was on the front lines facing the destructive force of Hurricane Harvey by helping, and saving lives of, the most vulnerable for more than 48 hours despite leaving his family and home alone during the storm.

Henry rescued numerous citizens while his wife was left to care for their three adopted children and three dogs as flood waters began entering their home, Mrs. Rogers was forced to place all three children and their dogs on the dining room table and seek help. A neighbor rescued their children and two dogs but when it came to rescue Henry’s wife, the water was too high. Mrs. Rogers spent the night on the dining room table with their German shepherd as they waited for help. Henry was finally able to come home and rescue his wife and dog the next afternoon. Their home and all belongings were destroyed.

In a ceremony at Baytown Hyundai, Mr. Henry Rogers, was presented with a 2018 Hyundai Elantra and an Infinity Audio System for his immeasurable public service role and contribution to the community.

Production of the Hyundai Elantra sedan began in November 2010 at the Montgomery, AL manufacturing plant.

Just got back from a 2,700+ Mile road trip to and from Florida in my 17 Elantra SE 6MT. Avg speeds when on the highway were 70-80+ due to time restraints, but dwl of course! Averaged 40-43mpg AT THOSE SPEEDS and including the horrible City driving while down there (Miami, FL). Considering the mountains and the avg speeds we needed to keep up, I'm impressed! Did a small 100 Mile stint of 50mpg to see what she's got when trying only a little while the wife was asleep ;).

My only complaint is the car's FCD avg has been consistently 10% POSITIVE and the actual is 10% lower since I got it. Been meaning to get around to asking the dealer if they can fix... Thought I got 50+, but after fill-up, I was bummed. Due to so many different gas pumps, getting the sg calibrated has been a bear. For some reason I like the 50mpg goal. Easy to guestimate fuel useage. 500miles = 10 gal.

I drove the automatic version recently and I'm impressed! Shifts really low and locks up the tc low and often. May have gone automatic if I test drove it before the manual. Better features as the manual is pretty bare. No cc, not that I'd use it too often... Either way, great car!

A new car doesn't really make sense for my life, but I'd be lying if I'd said I wasn't tempted by the loss-leader stick Elantra my local dealer had last year...

    Hi All:

Adding a few anecdotal pieces to the Elantra's persona.

The base audio system is the best in the compact segment imho. I am not talking about the Harmon Kardon system in the Limited but the base system on the SEL on up. Not sure about the SE as it has been forever since I have driven it. The system sounds good from the top to bottom from AM/FM/HD/XM/Bluetooth streaming and aux cord without a fuss. The Elantra infotainment is by far the best in the segment.

Wishes? Dual bottle holders vs single in the doors, side marker lights to see into the corner better, lower interior front windscreen vents to melt the snow and ice accumulation during snowstorms. I wish the already large glovebox was a bit larger given I am carrying a lot of stuff" for Rideshare.

    Hi All:

While crossing WY last week, I encountered blizzard conditions with winds of up to 65 mph. On I-80, the WYDOT uses sand and it was pelting the car with every gust. After detailing it here in Southern CA yesterday, the paint around the car is fine but I am seeing micro-pits that I can not polish out of the front windscreen. In other words, the glass is to soft compared to other OEMs I have driven/owned over the years.

Th WYDOT closed down the 80 after Laramie for 9-hours before I was allowed to continue into a more std. snowstorm with winds of 30+ mph heading down the hood.

    Hi ALl:

This is the 32/40 mpg rated Elantra ECO's performance attributes while climbing almost 4,000' and crossing all of NE on I-80... I had over 500 lbs of "stuff" from my IL home in the trunk and back seats - both folded down - while taking it out to CA.
