    Hi All:

2016 Nissan Maxima Platinum Speed vs FE complete with winds out of the east at 5 to 10 mph on the NB/SB segments with temps between 51 to 59 degrees F.

EPA Highway crossover occurs at 78.0 mph meaning the Maxima was highway under rated by more than 2 mph! This should be a 32 mpg highway rated car, not 30 mpg. I bet there is a nice bump for the 2017 MY with nothing changed yet the consumer will benefit from the time they drive the car off the lot to the time they trade it in.

Speedometer at 50, 60 and 70 mph was dead on with the CC setting and Garmin.

Saw 1,560 RPM@60 mph vs. 1,520 calculated with up to 300 RPM variance with small overpass climbs as expected with the CVT.

    Hi All:

The Maxima Review is up to date other than vids. Server, forum and gallery swap caused all kinds of headaches with this one. :(

All-new 2016 Nissan Maxima 3.5L V6 engine named to "Wards 10 Best Engines" list for 2016

    Hi All:

WardsAuto named the 2016 Nissan Maxima's new 3.5L V6 engine to its annual "Wards 10 Best Engines" list for 2016. The honor marks Nissan's 17th Wards 10 Best Engines trophy and the auto company's 15th for the VQ-series V6, the most awarded engine in 10 Best Engines history.

In selecting this year's winners, WardsAuto editors spent October and November evaluating 31 all-new or improved powertrains available in vehicles on sale in the U.S. with a base price under $61,000 for 2016. No instrumented testing was involved – simply driving to and from home, work, school, and everyday activities. Factors considered include horsepower, torque, comparative specs, noise attenuation, fuel economy and the application of new technology.

The guiding principles for the competition have remained consistent over the years:

Does the engine or electric propulsion system truly sell the car or raise the bar for its competitive set?

    Tom Murphy, senior editor, WardsAuto.com:
Along with a high specific output (HP/L) of 85.7 hp/liter, the revised engine also offers a 15 percent increase in highway fuel economy to 30 miles per gallon and was the first 300 hp car or truck to provide us with over 40 mpg! The new, performance-oriented Xtronic CVT features a wider 6.3:1 ratio range allows for stronger acceleration from a standing start and an all-new D-Step shifting logic provides faked rapid shifts at high and low throttle openings.

The 2016 Maxima is assembled in Smyrna, Tennessee, with engines assembled in Decherd, Tennessee.

I have seen this car up close and personal when getting my CR-Z serviced from the Nissan dealership that I bought it from. The seating for me was darn near perfect. My wife really loves the style of this car. I could see one in my driveway a couple years down the road when I decide to drop a couple of the ones that I currently have.

    jcp123 Caliente!

This thing looks crappy in pictures. In real life - it's a very handsome machine. I question its value and where it belongs in any segment, but a $28k version has lots of appeal. Love the floating roof. And the VQ engines are solid if they have fixed the crank sensors which seemed to go out on the VQ35s I saw during my brief stint in Nissan service. And contrary to many I have found Nissan CVTs to be quite competent when I was driving their cars ca. 2010-2011.

FWIW I have dealt with the Nissan plant in Smyrna - that place is an appalling mess. Would have thought it would be tidily organized, the way the Mercedes plant in Alabama is.

Sure, the $28K price sounds good. But who wants to fill this guzzler up with dino juice for 150K miles ?
