    Hi All:

We have the 17 Sonata Hybrid Limited back after an inordinate amount of time. That being 15-days.

They replaced the Hybrid Starter Generator (HSG) and of course all the paperwork showed $0.00 under warranty.

    CEL - Op Code: 70001R2

Confirmed customer concern that vehicle is making noise.

Found History DTCS P0A4C Generator Position sensor circuit range/Performance AND P1A77 Check Generator Belt.
Found Related TSB 17-01-045-2 Inspect Generator Pulley nut. Found markings are misaligned. Recommend replacing Hybrid Starter Generator, Drain Hybrid Coolant, Removed intake air box, Removed Wiring Harness, Removed intake manifold, Removed Drive Belt, Removed Generator, Transferred Belt Tensioner onto new Generator. Reinstalled all components with new seals, performed electric water pump actuation, cleared DTCS, Confirmed no noise present when engine turns on. Road tested vehicle. Confirmed vehicle is operating as designed.

    Part Number(s)

    37390-2E930 - HSG Assembly - Generator (1)
    28313-2E000 - Gasket-Port (4)
    28312-2E000 - Gasket-Throttle Body (1)
    28314-2E900 - Gasket-EGR Valve (1)
    00232-19010 - Coolant/Antifreeze 1-gallon (1)

The Service Manager said this would be well beyond a $1,000 job as the HSG itself is probably $1k alone but did not have a retail cost on it. I found one online and "It aint cheap".

I have a Hyundai number to call tomorrow morning in an attempt to get reimbursed for the 9-days of AVIS rental at $358. The Hyundai Dealer said it should not be a problem given the documentation you have and the 15-days they had the car.

We dodged a bullet on this one.

    Hi All:

I submitted paperwork though the Hyundaiusa.com website to try and recover the 9-days of AVIS rental for $358.71. The data entry worked relatively easily as I called to start a case and create a case number. From the website, I updated the Case # by uploading the Sonata's registration, the entire 2-page work order, Avis Rental Agreement, and Avis Rental paid CC Receipt. All as jpgs.

The CSR I setup the case # with said the process can take up to 45-days.

    Hi Bill:

The dealership said it should not be a big deal but you know how dealerships and OEMs are when it comes to this kind of thing. Fingers are crossed indeed.
